I doubt China would do anything to get the US involved in their backyard even more than we currently are. Blinding a satellite? They may have tried, and succeeded, but we're the ones spying, not them (well... they probably are). It's like the Soviet Union and the U-2 spyplane we flew over their territory. They shot it down. Who looked like the real fool? Heh.

In a longterm sense, I think China has more to fear from Japan, honestly.

Earth Observation Satellites are ***not*** considered aggressive.

Earth Observation Satellites are ***not*** considered the same way as overflights.

Earth Observation is ***not*** considered a provocation.

Earth Observation is considered LEGAL SURVEILLANCE.

If anyone is thinking otherwise, then they are setting new standards. Does anyone think eg taking a picture of a Chinese warship is an automatic provocation.

There are a huge number of EO sats out there in circumpolar orbits. They need to pass over other countries. There is no alternative.

Where do you think Google Earth gets its imagery from...?

Well if the report is thru then the Chinese have changed the rules of the game.

Anyway why does the US have to see whats going on in other countries?
Whatever way you chop it, its to gather military intel.
Checking out the position of a warship, no not a provovation, its probley been shadowed anyway.
But using satalites to take highly detailed pictures of military instalations, thats a different story, ...hmm to be honest I can't see the problem with someone dazzling a Military satalite.
Its not like there knocking out Satalites that are mapping the sea floor!

if this was a big deal, it would have been all over the press in US. as far as knocking down a satellite, thats a different story.

awesome is'ent it! but as you can see its not very high res, satalites that can find the entrance to a hidden bunker or camoed air fields are an other matter, maybe the Chinese dont want the US or Russians knowing where there Nuclear silo's are...

Or maybe as an alternate explaination, it was a test, maybe the Chinese were trying to see if it was possible if they could dazzle a US satalite.
In case they ever needed to knockout US satalite coverage over the PPC?
The "assassins mace" anyone?

or the whole Story was BS
