Russia is supplying Kazakhstan the latest S-300PMU2 as part of an attempt to boost the CSTO joint IADS. Back in 2006 Russia supplied Belarus a number of S-300P units for similar purposes.
Is this just politics, or really an attempt at regional ADS integration? How do you think this will affect the status of the CSTO in general?
This is shortly after the creation of the CSTO rapid-response forces, which will also be primarily Russia and Kazakhstan, with limited input from the other member states (1 bltn each). Does this have potential to become a valid regional security force? A multi-lateral approach to dealing with regional security threats such as the Georgian conflict? Or is this just general political posturing with the occasional attempt to make money off of it?
