Why is European countries selling their stockpile MBT's? Need money? Or to renew its equipment?
The Turkish surplus inventory comprises of M48's
. They are ready for war and also used for spare parts. Most of the mare being scrapped. Some of them are to be converted to winches or recovery vehicles and supply vehicles. The 90mm M48A3 tanks also exist. Turkey can not sell them because of the restrictions and of it's obsolete use. Who wants them? But Turkish army has used them against the PKK/KONGRA-GEL and DHKP/C terrorist. And left the more modern out of the conflict. When entering Iraq in the mid 1990's, many M48 were used succesfully, RPG-7 were unable to penetrate. The clumsy tanks turned all back without losses to Turkish soil.
Why selling them? Use your old weapons against the terrorist instead of the expensive weapons wich have to get old when using them. Convert the old M48's to a AA tank, ATGM carrier, bridge layer or een SP artillery vehicle. What dou you think of this guys?
