Pakistan to test new missile: Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf said Thursday Pakistan would test fire a 2,000-kilometer (1,250-mile) range missile in a month.

"We have built the Shaheen II missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers and we will test fire it in one month,"
Musharraf said at a news conference during which he said he had pardoned the disgraced architect of Pakistan's nuclear bomb, Abdul Qadeer Khan, for leaking technology abroad.

Musharraf vowed Pakistan's nuclear and missile programmes would never be rolled back and the country was achieving steady progress in strengthening its assets.

"This country will never roll back its nuclear assets and its missile programme. This can never be done, this is my promise," he said.

Pakistan carried out its last missile test in October when it fired a 700-kilometer range surface-to-surface Shaheen I ballistic missile, capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

Pakistan's arsenal includes the Ghauri missile which can hit targets up to 1,500 kilometers.

India and Pakistan geared up their missile programmes after both carried out nuclear tests in May 1998. India has tested more missiles than Pakistan, including the Agni II which has a range of 2,500 kilometers.

PAKISTAN has decided to test fire a long range missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, a government minister said today.

Foreign Minister Khursheed Kasuri declined to specify when the missile would be tested, or what was its exact range.

The missile belongs to the Shaheen series, Kasuri told reporters in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. Last year, Pakistan test fired the Shaheen 1, which has a range of about 700 kms, far enough to hit India's capital, New Delhi, and other major targets.

Shaheen 2, another missile from the same family, has also been developed. It has a range of more than 1,900 kms but has never been tested.

"We have our own plan. We have our own timetable for missile tests," Kasuri said.

He reiterated Pakistan's missile development program was for defensive purposes.

Pakistan and India have begun a historic peace process, and Kasuri's comment appeared aimed at allaying any Indian fears about the motive for the test.

Pakistan about to test missile that extends range

ISLAMABAD, March 8 (Reuters) - Pakistan will soon test for the first time a new nuclear-capable missile, the Shaheen II, which could reach all of India's cities.

"You should expect this flight test anytime, shortly," Foreign Ministry spokesman Masood Khan told reporters on Monday.

My friend, do you not know that Israel has Arrow missile defence which already proven its effectiveness in test trials.. Not to mention they have very sophisticated satellites (i.e. Ofek) which would detect any hostile ballistic missiles.. They would have plenty of time to intercept and Retaliate with their 200 some odd nuclear arsenal..

Why should Israel be afraid of selling military hardware to India.. They have more than enough military deterrence, they have no reason to be scared of pakistan - which is far behind Israel..

Then Israel shouldn't have any problem Pakistan selling advanced missile tech and other weapons to middle eastern states. If need be and in very rare and extreme situation pak could use saudis as a launching site. and these "trials" that you mention are stage managed, they are arranged in such way that there are 99% chances of missile hitting the target... launch the missile from certain location, place the arrow missile battery at a certain location.... with pakistans mobile launchers God knows where the missile will be launched and where it will hit.

First of all, Pakistan has already blown any chances being able to sell any missile technology to middle east - with the recent scandal and all.. Since Pak was caught red-handed in Iran,, there will be more of that. therell be far more scrutiny and surveillance preventing Pakistan from doing this again w/ ME.. - If not anyone else - U.S. and IAEA will make sure of it... U.S. wont let Pak do anymore proliferating..
Even if Pak were to launch missiles from ME, Israel would still be able to deter it with Arrow MD, and Satellites, Phalcon, Submarine-launched nuke Retaliation.. etc, etc, etc.. ISrael is always one step ahead.. thats for sure, they have to be - in such a hostile neighborhood.

Secondly, your claim that Arrow Missile defence trials are staged to look 99% accurate is totally absurd.. FIrstly, you do not have any proof or documentation of this.. you are just BSing, because you are probably frustrated with Israel's Potent/Advanced capabilities..

Israel has no reason to "stage" successful trials... It is developing the most advanced/successful ANTI-Ballistic Missile SHield in the world.. In order to do this, they have to do realistic tests.. and there have been plenty of unbiased articles showing its success..
