No it doesn't.

BULWARK and ALBION are LPDs.

LPD embarked F-35B ops?

Good luck with that.

And by Stampede

It's just QE.

I think my point stands however - if you've got some stuff that can do amphib stuff already then buying a San Juan or similar doesn't make so much sense.

Honestly ? If you've something with a stern dock and some helipads already, what makes more sense to build? A bigger version of the same with gates and space for STOVL ops or, separate the two out, keep the LPD's and build dedicated aviation assets (ie, carriers of some sort) makes more sense.

I think you're being needlessly snippy here mate.

Honestly why would you want to embark F-35Bs on LPDs when you have full blown CVs? You're reaching a bit to far there cobber.

Ngati, it was an attempt at a joke. I plead guilty to epic failure to tell it right. Should've used one of those yellow smiley face thingies, but I usually forget they're available here. Shall now report to the grating for an immediate flogging.

Stobie, there's nothing snippy in there. Further, as there's no current UK project to replace the LPDs or expand littoral capability, I have no idea of why anyone is talking about new amphib ships, let alone those of the non-existent SAN JUAN-class.

Haha. @Preceptor loves a good flogging, so he'll turn up to watch & drool. :D

Ah, okeys.

Original comment related to how maybe the RN would have been better off building a class of San Juan style efforts instead of two large carriers optimised around fixed wing assets.

I hope I havent confused you but my suggestion was for the Daring class anti air warfare destoyer to have its Radar upgraded to extend its range
MBDA Aster 30 Block 1 NT Missile Passed Preliminary Design Review - Naval News
The R..N has expressed an interest in the Aster 30 bi 1nt which is believed capable of intercepting ballistic missiles up to 1500 kilometres
There have been published articles previously on the modifications of the Daring class https://www.janes.com/images/assets/877/48877/maritime_ballistic_missile_defence_in_a_UK_context.pdf
The present Sampson sensor carried on the Daring class claims to track targets to 400 kilometres so perhaps being able to increase such a range would present more warning for supersonic missiles ,its been many years since Ive read more detailed information on radars and sensors ,Im not the expert thats why I asked the question here of those who are
Type 45 has the Sampson MFR, & S1850M (a variant of the The Thales SMART-L) for volume search. I don't see improving the range of Sampson being a priority when the ships already have a longer-range radar. If you want better performance at long ranges, then upgrading S1850M would look more appropriate. Thales is producing a full AESA Smart-L variant, Smart-L MM, as Systems Adict says, but if what I've read is correct (I only know what's published, of course) the S1850M can handle BMD defence with software & maybe processor upgrades.

Note that the 1500 km range is not the range at which Aster 30 Block 1 NT can intercept ballistic missiles, but the range of the ballistic missiles which it can intercept. MBDA is clear on this on its website.

Put video on Prince of Wales coming to Portsmouth. Just keep me wondering, with both carriers are coming quite tight to Portsmouth water way, will it be enlarge sometime in future ?
