Hi all I am prior service. I have served in 2 different militaries and in 2 different branches. I prefer not to say which ones at the moment, other than one was big and one was small.
Here to learn and talk about military point of interest.

Currently busying myself on a series of short military recognition videos. I have completed about 70 of a grand total of almost 500. I hope I will get them all finished but who knows. I think it will take me about 18 months to complete that many.

Thanks all and see you in the forums.

G'day

Former regular poster as The Puss / The Puss MK 2 (I'm terrible at keeping track of accounts)

I took a break from all things defence related when I left the R.A.N with 14 years service, 7 odd years ago and became a nurse.

Had a look at the R.A.N thread and it looks like a lot of the old guys are still around so it will be interesting to lurk around a little bit.

Cheers

G'day and welcome back. Thought that you'd been quiet for a while. Always good to have an old salt onboard because definitely raises the quality of the membership. :D

I'm hoping a moderator will pick this up as I didn't want to continue the OT discussion in the main forum pages.
I'm trying to work out how to private message.

I was told that you click on the persons 'identification' and a box comes up with a "start a conversation" link.
When I do that, it's not there. The line goes straight from "media page" to "follow" without the conversation link, or a gap where it should be.

Obviously something is wrong, but is it me or you? : )

Ok, no probs. I see what's happened and easily sorted and not you because it depends upon what you are using. I use a PC so that's how I generally access conversations because I find it quicker. On the top right of the DT page you should see you user name:
Coversations instructions.jpg
Since I am using a PC with a mouse if I right click on my user name, this drop down menu appears:
Coversations instructions1.jpg
By clicking on Conversations (circled in red) I will then be taken to the conversations page.

The other way i can do this is to click on my user name and then it ill take me to my profile page. On the left hand side of the profile page this set of options are shown:
Coversations instructions2.jpg
By clicking on the appropriate Conversations sub menu (circled in red) I will be taken to the appropriate page.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for taking the time to reply NG
I also am on a PC.

Your first alternative comes up as advertised. But if I want, for instance, to PM you, I can't see how it lets me start a conversation from scratch.

And the underlying cause of my problem may be reinforced in the second option where, when I go through those steps, I only get a "view conversations" option, not a "start a conversation" one.

Thanks

That is no problem.

Ok. In the the graphics above, I use the 02-DT-Material-Sport-NEW Style for my browser which is Google Chrome, so in the Personal Details it says "New Conversation". When I change to the old style Default Style it says "Start a New Conversation" as shown below:
Coversations instructions3.jpg

If you still can't see the "New Conversation" or "Start a New Conversation" button then you may have a browser issue, so it may pay to update your browser. try that and see what happens.

Welcome to the forum and nice to have another Kiwi onboard, although your last job may strike fear into the hearts of some of our Aussie posters :D Ah well aren't they all descended from criminals anyway :D. Good luck with having your two books published. What are the topics? Anyway we look forward to your contributions to the ongoing discussions and please take time to familiarise yourself with the rules.
