When one mentions biology wrt to defence, many will think about germ warfare. The biotechnology revolution in health care is in the news often as is news about genetic engineering (usually food crops, animals). The attached link mentions Chinese work on human emybros. It will be interesting to see the response to this down the road. While opposition in the West will likely be strong, China will not have any domestic opposition so their military is free to exploit this technology.
As I often visit life science laboratories in Canada, for economic reasons, most of the students in advanced life science programs are foreign. The universities are allowed to charge higher tuition fees. Of these, at a minimum, 50% are Chinese.
