Something I found of interest in the Navy Newspaper

Tank cut down to size. Cross section of an ex Army Leopard MBT
Current Edition : Navy News Paper : Department of Defence

Regards S
Apparently a lot of fun for the Navy pers involved.

The intent is to mimic the display at Defence College of Management and Technology in Shrivenham: Stock Photo - A Dissected German Leopard Tank (with Mannequin crew) in the British Army's Armour Museum at Shrivenham. That way you'll be able to 'walk in' and experience the size and cramped interior.

Announced yesterday was the forthcoming transfer of 2 Army Black Hawk helicopters to the NSW RFS from 2019. A link to the RFS media release is here.
https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/news-and-media/ministerial-media-releases/black-hawks-to-support-nsw-rfs

NSW Budget Papers say the helicopters were gifted from the ADF and the state has set aside $6.5m to repurpose and refurb them.
https://www.budget.nsw.gov.au/budget-overview/protecting-our-communities

This will give the RFS a new organic capability that will enable them to uplift firefighters and deploy them to remote or inaccessible firegrounds whereas current aerial assets are mainly involved in waterbombing and (presumably) eyes in the sky firefront reconnaissance.

This announcement comes on top of last year’s reports that that Sikorsky Helitech, Kaan Air Australia and StarFlight Australia have signed an agreement to bring an initial 10 ex-US Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters into Australia to be refurbished for use locally in aerial firefighting, emergency services and disaster relief operations with an option for 10 more.

http://australianaviation.com.au/2017/07/ex-us-army-black-hawks-headed-down-under-for-fire-fighting-operations/

We have certainly come a long way since the days I would watch grainy black and white images of volunteers trying to beat out fires with hessian attached to poles and hand operated metal knapsacks full of water.

The RFS media release also includes the comment that the 39 Army Blackhawks are expected to be gradually withdrawn from service from 2019. I have read in these posts that the MRH 90 is not ideal for special operations use so does that suggest a new helicopter type or just keeping a residual fleet of Blackhawks until the kinks are worked out.
Sorry about being so late i only just noticed this Post,
I actually saw this story yesterday elsewhere but the Army doesn't actually have 39 Blackhawks anymore, lost 2 in 1996 when they collided during an exercise in Nth Qld killing all on board both Choppers.
The MRH-90 is taking over the specops role and are getting a new Light Helicopter(MH-6 class?) next decade.for specops

This is an odd one.
I noticed a number of military vehicles exiting Randwick racecourse in Sydney the other evening.
2 of which were humvees.
Now the ADF doesn't have any in their inventory that I am aware of.
I was wondering whether this was part of a mixed
military exercise, or some media/movie exercise.
I haven't been able to find anything on google or google news.
Apart from the 2 humvees are the other 2 vehicles currently in use with the ADF?

The two vehicles in the middle look like a Land Rover Perentie 6x6 (middle left) and perhaps a Land Rover Perentie 4x4 (middle right).

I would be more inclined towards Movie Props, The Perenties(?) could be ex ADF vehicles(civil reg Perenties Becomming fairly common on the Road). Foreign Military Vehicles are rare on Aussie roads except for Darwin or major exercises and what would they be doing in Randwick Race Course
Or even a Military vehicle enthusiast's group?

If I had to guess, I’d say it has something to do with the new ‘Australia gets invaded by aliens’ movie called Occupation. I’ve see the trailer, and it includes a bunch of rovers and other old military vehicles. I think the movie is released next week, so there might be some sort of premiere or other marketing happening at the moment. The racecourse might be being used as a staging area before driving them down the road to Fox studios.

I’m undecided about the movie. Probably worth a watch, even if just to laugh at the fact so many Tigers all seem to be serviceable at once...

And somehow we probably ended up with more like 122 Tigers, The RAAF did manage to shoot down a Alien Ship over Sydney in the original Independence Day Movie so maybe we are really good at it.

The number plates would be the giveaway, ALL Australian defence force registered vehicles have Australian defence force number plates

Oh dear, well I suppose Jango / Bobba Fett will kick ass.

On the Tigers, plenty of them serviceable these days, its amazing the difference having spare parts and consumables makes. My personal belief is the ADF is used to either FMS or local production programs which have organic support systems as part of the project, when we step outside this space and the CoA has to organise (or at least contract) things themselves it goes pear shaped.

Thanks Volk
I have not read any news about the Tigers lately so if their serviceability is up that's good to hear.
Any other details would be appreciated.

The Kiwi actor on the trailer played the bounty hunter Jango Fett on Attack of the Clones, he also played Jango Clones which included Bobba and every clone trooper seen without a helmet.
