INFORMATION ABOUT INDONESIA’S REFUSAL TO BUY UKRAINIAN BTR-4 IS ANOTHER TOOL OF INFORMATION WARFARE - Ukroboronprom

Uuhhhuuu..The Ukraine fought back..they are complaining that the info on Indonesian Marines refusal to pursue additional batch of BTR-4M is another miss information that try to reputediate Ukraine Military products image.

Well all I can hear from local media here that Mindef and Marines do still searching definite replacement candidate for the venerable BTR-50.

The Ukraine do need to improve the image of reliable Arms Supplier..first the questions on their ability to supply Thailand Army with T-84 Oplot MBT..Now with BTR-4M quality with Indonesian Marines
Thailand is also looking at Chinese APCs after their experience with the BTR-3.

The Indonesian Marines need something that stable and reliable for up to 10 miles sea run frm LPD off shore to the beach. That sea run frm LPD factor seems that made The Marines want to re-look for BTR 50 replacement frm BTR-4M previously sought.

AAV-7 was initially the prefered candidate..but they simply did not have budget for AAV-7 to replaced the wholle BTR-50 inventory. They do like BMP-3F performance as PT-76 replacement. Thus it's previously thought BT-3F can be ideal candidate.

However then come assesment that 8x8 also needed. With limited budget now they want to get BTR-50 replacement that is 8x8 with capability that are more than BTR-50 automotive performances. Which means the 8x8 has to have better off road capabilities than tracked BTR-50..and also stable amphibious capabilities for open sea run.
All of this must be procured with the budget of less than USD 100 mio for 50+ vehicles and support parts..

So far frm what I gather..they seems can drop the 8x8 requairements..thus another BMP-3F/BT-3F seems strong candidates..but also come Korean K-21 as potential.

Thanks for sharing, just read about it: China tank deal cut 'due to cash woes' | Bangkok Post: news

So it seems not only the performance of the Ukrainian APCs are not impressive, but also rate of production of the Ukrainians are comparable with IPTN .... :D;)

Btw, does anyone knows when the first AH-64Es will be delivered?

New pictures yesterday come out of Turkey FNSS and Indonesian Pindad joint development Medium Tank. FNSS unveil the tank on IDEF deffence show in Turkey. The pictures come from Turkey Forum.

http://www.trt.net.tr/shqip/turqia/...on-prototipin-e-tankut-te-ri-kaplan-mt-728823

So far frm media talk and in several forum, altough this medium tank is joint development between Turkey and Indonesia, seems the pottential users at the moment is Indonesian Army, since so far Turkish Army only attracted on using MBT.

Indonesian Army aimed to replace all AMX 13 and latter Scorpion 90 with this Medium Tank as supplement to Leo 2 MBT.

@Sandhi..the plan schedulle for AH-64E is this year and next..initial batch of 2 plan to be in Indonesia before October. Howefer I have not got more info, whether this schedulle still on time.

Thanks, i read something about the AH-64E in the Indonesian Air Force thread.

More about Penerbad, it seems the first three of 12 ordered Eurocopter AS550 are delivered to TNI-AD until now.
Tahun Ini Juga, PT DI Siap Tuntaskan Seluruh Pesanan Helikopter Fennec Untuk TNI AD – Indomiliter.com
So reading the article it looks like Penerbad will use the AS550 (version unknown) for scout/armed reconnaissance, because IPTN will equip these twelve Fennecs with machine guns and rocket pods before delivery to Penerbad.

Something else, i always thought that Penerbad only has around two-three EC-120Bs, but according wikipedia they have twelve EC-120B, is that correct?

There is a rumor that the Indonesian Marine will get 9 more BTR-4. Don't ask me to reconcile that with earlier news. I can't. Indonesian military procurement is mindboggling.

More likely..some faction with strong political support try to safe Ukraine deal. They already worked hard to get the budget approved..and then face hurdle caused the Marines found it not really meet their expectation.

So perhaps someone/parties try to get another batch for further "examintation"..
Again this just speculation...but like tonnyc says..the Indonesian Armament procurement mindbogling..and incŕesingly more on this administration..

Then its really obvious that some people try to push through / force the acquisition of the BTR-4s, something which doesn't make sense if the Marines are disappointed with it, unless those people are just corrupt. Looks a little bit like the EH-101 case...

The BTR-4 appears to be out and the BT-3F in. At least for now. Though trials are still required, the BT-3F isn't a real new vehicle, it's just a BMP-3 chassis with no turret and a raised ceiling.

BTR50 share many similarity in system and logistics with PT76. Both have proved well managed assets by the Marines for 50 years. Now they already replaced PT76 with BMP3F, thus it's understandable if they are try to see if BT-3F will be good complementary to BMP3F as BTR50 did to PT76.

One thing for sure no matter what the Ukraine and their supporter/vendor says in media, the Marines practically has rejected more BTR4..Still with Indonesian Armed acquisition track record..anything still can happen..

Pandur, Alutsista Terbaru TNI - ARCINC

From local website arcinc..showing first batch of Pandur II 8x8 from czech Excalibur Army, arived in Pindad facility. Pindad being involved on weapons and system installation. Rumours TNI-AD will used IFV version with 30mm gun, and 105mm Gun version.

Altough the article says that Pandur will equiped Mechanised Infantry batalions, but some talk circulated that the Pandur 8x8 will equiped cavalry batalions instead. Thus left mechanised infantry being equiped by Pindad's own Anoa and M113.

I haven't seen any news earlier about this $39 million acquisition, so this is actually the first big defence project from this administration, right?

The variants delivered to the Czech Army have a lot of Israeli Raphael content, I wonder about the versions for TNI-AD. The ordered numbers are still unknown, isn't it?

As far as that I can recall, this is the first big item procuement that originally envisaged by this administrations that come to fruition.

All other procurement items including M109, originally dealed under previous administrations.

There's talk in local forum and media, the Indonesian Pandur will used 30mm that originated frm Brazil (eventough build under license from Raphael).. the 105 mm gun will used cockerill gun..

The good thing that I noticed - following the acquisition of all the new hardware - it seems like there are way more frequent live fire exercise at higher-than-battalion level. It's quite common nowadays to see and read about exercises involving the new Leos, BMP3 (Marines), and CAESARs. It seems like the Army (and the Marines) are willing to spend on a lot of rockets. Whether those live rounds are cheap (or not), it's a good thing to see those types of exercise.

Now if only they start expanding them to more precision munitions live fire. I have not read about Ataka or Javelin live test. I hope the current precision ordnance do not suffer the same fate as the Rapiers - only sitting inside the depo until retirement.

Until now no further updates about the Pandur II acquisition.

Here some old articles from orders which were not really exposed at that time.
In February 2017 Indonesia ordered an additional 18 CEASARS wheeled self-propelled howitzer systems for TNI-AD on top of the 37 current ones.
Indonesia orders CAESAR howitzer systems from Nexter - UPI.com

Also in Feb 2017, UMS Skeldar, a joint venture between Saab Group and UMS Aero, received a contract to supply its V-200 unmanned aerial vehicle to Indonesia's defense ministry. So its not clear if these UAVs are for the army, air force or navy.
