Just to note, the number of T-64BM Bulats were ~76 (2012) and I believe are close to double that now (~150) from various sources (minus losses). A limiting production factor to be considered, is down to 1st Arm Bgde was the only unit to be equipped with T-64BM Bulat MBT. That production output plan is obviously in the toilet now..

Do you have sources on that? I was not aware of any large scale upgrade of new Bulat's. The only handovers of Bulats that I've seen were tanks from the front that had taken damage or required repair and overhaul. In other words the same tanks, not new ones.

Having said all, production output has changed in the last six months and all the following production & repair plants have adopted a daily three shift policy.

- KMDB Malyshev Plant - T-72, T-64 & BTR-3/4 (& possibly some T-84 Oplot)
- MBTZ Mykolayiv Arms Plant - BTR-70
- Lviv Armored Plant - BTR-60PB, BTR-80 & BDRM
- Zhytomyr Armored Plant* - BMD, BMP & BREM

They still haven't given Thailand the second batch of 5 Oplot tanks, which were seen in the factory, close to completion. T-72 numbers repaired seem to have been tiny, and none have been seen at the front. Small batches of BTR-3 and 4 yes. The BTR-3 is iirc made in Kiev not in Kharkov, at the Kiev BTRZ. You left out the BTS-4/5 that have been restored to service in some small numbers. 3 shifts is nice, but how many people actually work there, and how effective are they? The results of BTR-4 production for Iraq is well known. And KMDB is one of the better plants. What's the quality of work at the rest of the factories? I remember Btln Feniks got 10 BTR-70s in front of Poroshenko. After he left, and it was all over, only two of them would start. And this is after going through an armor repair plant. The scandal with a colonel refusing to sign acceptance papers for 15 out of the 31 T-64BVs, that were also handed over in front of the president, is well known. How many similar cases simply go unreported because nobody important was around?

* I understand Zhytomyr is requesting approval to upgrade/ convert other armoured vehicle-types, but is awaiting for some sort of bureaucratic sign-off.

KMDB in particular, I'm sure is focusing on domestic concerns as of this point going forward. I haven't seen an export order's for quite some time now. I think you mentioned 1-2 deliveries on pending export contracts for BTR-3/4's (or maybe a MBT), were understandably cancelled by the Ukrainian Govt, for the vehicles to be put into Army's somewhat, haphazard vehicle allocation system..

It's weird, they still delivered some BTR-4s, T-72s, and T-64B1Ms, to various African customers.

Do you know if the RF have looked into development of this particular chassis as an IFV-variant previously? At 34tons + add-on SP, it looks attractive.

Looks like the first prototype was in '05 and its uses a BTR-3/4 wheeled suspension. 2-3 crew + 8 dismounts.

RF is not looking at anything to do with the T-64 or its chassis. They've tossed the type entirely, and it was the first to go, for obvious reasons. There are two variants of the T-64 IFV, one with wheels, one with tracks. Iirc only the tracked variant has been built, but maybe my info is dated.

I'm not going to discuss production quality.. My point was and still remains production ouptut from this time last year is continuing to grow (including the proportion 'defects', as you mentioned)

Note; I left out BTS-4/5 are armoured dozers, as I don't believe the vehicles are that relevant, in the greater context of this conflict.

And of course it's not so much about the total numbers as it is about readiness and op-tempo. There's a great article where a rebel tanker describes the utter chaos and complete clusterf*ck on the rebel side during the push for Debal'tsevo, when HQ and comms simply couldn't handle controlling the large masses of people they had, and it ended up in a total breakdown. He mentions that his "battalion" had iirc 4 operational tanks. The same sort of thing is going on on the Ukrainian side, especially when you consider that the vast majority of Ukraine's troops are conscripts.

And of course a lot of the stuff they're "returning to service" gets to the units, and then breaks down almost immediately, turning into dead weight. So it's a little tricky.

Interesting, clearly a guy between a rock and a hard-place, but he seems to be managing his situation reasonably well. As for managing his country I guess that's something for his fellow citizens to decide.

Lukashenko is a survivor and always managed to keep himself on top. He's somewhat amazing in that aspect.

If you're under the impression that Lukashenko is licking anyone's boots, you're very mistaken.

Except that they don't really have a choice or a voice!

Choice is an illusion even in the most liberal democratic societies, with all candidates usually representing little more then their financiers and backers. Lukashenko is a strong and intelligent leader who has navigated his country in a very complex political landscape with considerable success, and has avoided sacrificing his sovereignty to either Russia or the EU.

Nothing particularly reliable. And remember some tanks in storage can be activated in a matter of days, others would take months. Some are little more then hulls with rotting interiors.

I'm not 100% sure, I think that cat 3 and 4 require factory overhaul, while 1 is ready to go with minimal prep, and cat 2 requires some additional work. I tried to find some material but google came up with nothing. I'll see if I can get something on it out of MilitaryRussia or CAST.
