As far I know Bangladesh ordered 2 F-22B Frigate which is same class as Pak F-22P;)
That deal is still on hold.

But we are very likely to receive 2 heavily upgraded O53H2 (jianghu III ) friagtes this year
.
Myanmar received two O53H1 Jianghu I frigates recently, but the ones we are to receive will be newer.

Also rumours (from highly reliable sources) state that we are two receive at least one more frigate of a different class this year and a few more over the coming years.

The tenure of the Current Chief of Navy Staff has been increased by two years. This man is a true visionary and has started and led the modernization plan of the Bangladeshi navy. Hopefully, he will see to that a lot more is done during his extended time.

A lot of reports are saying that the soon to be retired USCG Dallas will be coming to the BN. I had posted earlier about how our Navy staff were impressed by a presentation made on the cutter by the US.

Apparently on his recent visit to the US, the CNS was able to convinve them that BN needed the cutter more.

The Bn plans to go for 2 or 3 more cutters and plans to turn all of them into Guided missile frigates most probably armed with C-802s.

Hi there TCP....sure hope this deal works out.....wikipedia mentioned about phillipines navy being interested in a Dallas cutter class vessel wondering if its the same or BN is going to buy them instead of being worked out through some US grant.

And the upgrades if our navy does it themselves will add more to the punch! simply coz it will imply our seriousness in technical/engineering capability. On the other hand even if the chinese help with it, that would be a good lesson to learn and then experiment more.

If the dllas is bought then our navy will upgrade in Bangladesh at KSY. Similar upgrades were done to our FACMs. They were all upgraded with C-704s in BD.

The US navy Secretary was here recently, efforts ares till on going on getting cutters, BN is also apparently interested in a new Hydro-graphic survey vessle.

Rumours have sparked up about the possibility of getting Oliver Hazard class frigates, but they are very baseless.

According to wikipedia, The first of the F-22B class frigates is gonna be named BNS Osmani (not to be confused with the existing BNS Osman). The USCG cutter is going to be named BNS Shiraj ud Dowla. There is also a mention of another new frigate named BNS Shah Poran but i'm not sure about its class.

Wikipedia is not a very accurate source of info.

There is no concrete report on the F-22B coming to Bangladesh, this deal might not go through, the Chinese are stalling too much.

The most likely Chinese frigate to enter the Bn in the next 2-3 years is a heavily upgraded Jianghu III or a Jiangwei I.

Also no deal has been signed about the Cutter, Its just rumours for now. It is true that the BN is trying hard to get one, but no deal has been signed yet.

US Secretary of Navy meets Navy Chief

Acquiring warship and ultra modern ocean survey ship from USA and assistance in the field of professional training also came up for discussion, said an ISPR press release.

Also BN is one of the prospective customers of HMS Edinburgh. The agenst that helped us get those two Castle class corvettes and the Hydrographic survey vessel, will try and get us the Type-42 destroyer.

But here si the thing, after we bought the CAstle Class we revamped the whole thing with Chinese SSMs, how difficult will that be with the Type-42. If we are going to get a ship this huge we will what to arm it with a good number of SSMs and add a VLS system as well.

Bangladesh Navy is probably looking to maintain two task forces equipped with frigates, guided missile corvettes, LPC-Ms, OPVs, submarines, naval strike aircraft, helicopters and amphibious warfare ships. They are also in the process of installing sophisticated combat data links on all capital ships and later on all its warships that have capacity to be equipped with such devices

First Indigenous Warship For Bangladesh Navy
Posted by Paul Fiddian - Armed Forces International's Lead Reporter on 10/10/2012 - 08:20:00

The first indigenous Bangladeshi warship has been launched, paving the way for the country's navy to soon be able to deploy its own, home-grown design.
Assembled at the Khulna shipyard, it's a patrol boat equipped with a pair of 20mm guns and a pair of 37mm guns and it has a weight of 255 tonnes. 50.4 metres long, it's 7.5 metres wide, 4.1 metres high and it can carry out missions lasting up to seven days at a time.
It's also got a 20mph cruise speed and it was constructed through a development programme overseen and supported by the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) - one of the two dominant Chinese ship-manufacturing organisations alongside CSSC (the China State Shipbuilding Corporation).
First Bangladeshi Warship
Now that the first Bangladeshi warship has been launched, officials at the shipyard foresee future Bangladeshi/Chinese naval collaborations taking place.
"The government has approved a 10-year perspective plan and, as part of this, we're procuring appropriate platforms, both new and off the shelf, including assets for our special warfare force", explained the chief of Bangladesh's naval staff, Vice Admiral Zahir Uddin Ahmed, adding: "We're also upgrading our existing fleet with capability to undertake emerging roles and maintain interoperability with friendly navies."
Bangladesh Navy Warships
The first Khulna class patrol vessel started to be built in March 2011 and the entire development phase lasted 18 months. There'll be five additional Bangladesh Navy warships built, meaning six will ultimately enter service.
The Bangladesh Navy presently operates 89 vessels of various kinds, including frigates, Corvettes, fast attack craft and tugs. All of them are prefixed ‘BNS', in reference to their operator.
The Bangladesh Navy has now been established for over 40 years. Part of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, it employs some 24,000 naval personnel and it's just about to receive its first fixed-wing aircraft - two Dornier Do228 NG maritime patrollers

'US-Bangla military diplomacy up'

Wed, Oct 10th, 2012 10:08 pm BdST

Dhaka, Oct 10 (bdnews24.com)—Military diplomacy has increased manifold between Dhaka and Washington as the US has key interest in Asia Pacific and South Asia region, Commander of US Pacific Command Admiral Samuel J Locklear said on Wednesday.

"We did an assessment and ask us a pretty simple question – what part of the world is our key interest for future and the answer is Asia Pacific and South Asia," Locklear said while exchanging views with a group of selected journalists at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka.

He met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Army chief General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan and Navy chief Vice Admiral Zahir Uddin Ahmed.

Secretary of US Navy Ray Mabus, Commanding General of US Army Pacific Command Lieutenant General Francis J Wiercinski, Seventh Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Scott Swift and Deputy Commander of Army National Guard of US Army Pacific Major General Joseph J Chaves visited Bangladesh this year.

The first-ever Bangladesh-US security dialogue was held in Dhaka in April while military dialogue was held in Hawaii in September.

Rebalancing in Asia

Washington is rebalancing its engagement as its focus has been shifted from the Middle East, Admiral Locklear said.

"In the last decades our military focus is primarily on the Middle East due to counterterrorism but these activities have come down," he said.

There is a rebalancing of engagement in not only about military but also about diplomatic and economic arena.

"Because of rebalance, you are seeing more activities by senior leadership devoted to Asia Pacific and South Asia and I think you should expect to see it continued," said the four-star admiral, who joined the Navy at 17 and would turn 58 next week.

Bangladesh engagement>/b>

The Admiral sees no problem if Bangladesh has military engagement with other powers in the region including China.

"Of course, Bangladesh can have productive role in other powers in the region," Locklear said, "In the end, we will have security environment where everyone participates."

The US admiral categorically said Washington would only help Bangladesh if its government asked for it.

He emphasised having more joint military exercise and said Washington might provide defence equipment including ships to Bangladesh.

Special forces

Admiral Locklear said US special forces have been operating in some countries with the consent of the respective governments.

His predecessor Robert F Willard once said the special forces were working in five Asian countries including Bangladesh.

"We have some special force operations but it is within the full concurrence of the governments of those countries."

US Pacific Command covers 36 countries, 3.6 billion people and five of out seven allies of the US are located in the area.
