The Khulna Ship Yard operated by the navy will start building LCVPs for the Bangladesh Army.

The KSY will also construct 2 Oil Tankers-

I am very intesrested to know about BN's current modernization programme. I have heard that khulna shipyard is building five OPVs.Does BN have any plan to build corvettes or missile boat locally?

BD already ordered two F-22Bs from China. The BN needs to replace 3 old British frigates and wants two raise further frigate sq. Apart from the 2 F-22Bs that have been ordered the BN is looking for more frigates, they have shown interest in the south Korean Ulsan class. Note the BN already operates 1 Ulsan class guided missile frigate the 'BNS Bangabandhu'. The Ulsan class has been quite popular for the navy and probably they are going to look more into it.

As for OPVs we are building the indigenous Khulna class OPVs, I posted a link in my earlier posts.
Is the F-22B contract signed? I can find info on the LPC deal, but nothing on F-22B contract. In fact, you can actually even see info on LPC on Chinese shipbuilding website.

My sources have been unable to confirm the signing of the deal at the moment, so I don't know either.

China how ever did come out as the lowest bidder for a tender for 2 corvettes and two Chinese companies have submitted 2 different designs, BN will choose the one they fill most suit their needs.

EDIT- If by LPC you mean large patrol craft (missile) then you are talking about the 2 corvettes they are same thing. I thought you meant Landing patrol craft, my bad.

yes, I was referring to large patrol craft. From the Chinese sources, they have already started working the project.

More on the 5 OPVs to be built by KSY-

Khulna Shipyard in Bangladesh has been awarded a contract to construct five modern patrol ships worth Tk2.80bn ($40m) for the Bangladesh Navy, according to Anisur Rahman Molla, the company's deputy general manager.

The ships will be 50m long and 7m wide and will have an optimum speed of 20-25mph.

Each ship will be equipped with two kinds of guns to carry out operational activities.

B’desh-US navies begin joint security exercises

Chittagong, Sept 18 (UNB) - Bangladesh and US Navies began an eight-day maritime safety and security exercises on Sunday under the first-ever Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Bangladesh 2011.

UNBconnect... - B’desh-US navies begin joint security exercises

This the first time the BN is going a CARAT exercise with the US. This signifies rising ties between the two nations navies.

There will also be joint training exercise between the USN Seals and the BN SWADS.

The chief of the Bangladesh Navy is going to China to attend the inauguration ceremony for the construction of the two LPCs.

Navy chief off to China

There have been really high level military delegations off to China in the last few months. The Chief of the Bangladesh army visited China a few weeks ago and before that the Chief of the air force.

Such visits are very common, but this time the visit of the 3 heads of services happened in short proximity of one another. There have been reports of huge hardware deals being inked at these meetings, but nothing concrete yet.

Interesting, we saw those PN FAC photos a couple of days ago. I guess the LPC photos should come out pretty soon too.

here is a proper compilation of a proper list of procurement of the Bangladesh navy made this year alone-

2 guided missile LPCs

2 Do.228NG MPAs

2 AW 109 helicopters

8 high speed boats

1 oil tanker

1 early radar system

more QW-2 systems

more C-704 systems

More OTOMAT-MK-II

Additionally-

A tender for 2 corvettes have been won by China
5 indigenous OPVs are being built(Khulna class)
1 locally manufactured hydro-graphic surveillance vessel

Also a deal for 3 frigates will be dome by the end of this year or the starting of the next, they will probably be ex-PLAN frigates and will be highly modernized. More maritime helicopters are on the cards. Modernization of the FACMs continue as do the navy's aspirations for a secure combat data link. The navy also continues to strengthen their plan to get a sub by 2019.

As for the F-22Bs.....it has been extremely frustrating, the deal seems to be stagnant and no news of progress has been heard of.

On the bright side, my sources keep on telling me to expect surprises this year so I have my fingers crossed.

All I got so far, will post more news when I get them.

.

It seems we will not be getting the C-704s but C-705 SSMs instead, a decision I applaud. Also chances are C-05s might be assembled in BD. The navy is also currently under the process of building an asembly plant for C-802s.

The coast guard will receive 33 new defender patrol boats, the navy already received 16 Defenders for free from the US.

The USA has been offering us a lot of surpluses lately, this includes transport air craft, helicopters and fighters.

The BN has also shown interest in the Pohang class.

The ULSAN class is till a very much sought after ship by the BN, but apparently, a second ULSAN class will cost a lot more money than the first one also, the deal has to be made through a private contractor which the BN does not like. These issues could have been easily resolved with a state to state deal.

Also Bangladesh's recent purchases and interest show, how much the navy wants to make its presence felt in our large EEZ by increasing their patrol capability.

Heres more recent news on the MPAs-

Patrol aircraft displayed

The Chinese are apparently claiming that we ordered two Jiangwei II class frigates and two second hand Jianghu frigates, makes sense with my previous posts about us ordering four frigates this year. I do really hope we ordered the Jiangweis.

Our PM recently met with some high Chinese navy officials, so this report could very well be true, just keeping my fingers crossed.
