Off the coast of Comquimbo, Chile (Jul. 3, 2002) -- The guided missile destroyer USS Fife (DDG 991) leaves to begin the Pacific Phase of the annual UNITAS exercise held in the waters near South America. UNITAS (Latin for âunityâ) involves warships from six countries participating in ten days of intense wargames designed to build multinational coalitions while promoting hemispheric defense and mutual cooperation.
