See RT:

One wonders what they could have in mind? Surely not a uni-lateral mission against the regime? Interesting that apparently a Russian Carrier had docked in a Syrian port previously rumoured to be advising on S-300 air defences.

Any thoughts?

Not sure if it is such a big deal, US carriers come and go, they have somewhat of a schedule of regular deployments so you have to find out if this deployment was advanced or if the area of operations was changed to make it significant.

There are a lot of rumors flying around the net, I read something about eminent declaration of no fly zone over Syria, also Russians giving S300s and Russian carrier deployment to Syria, etc...not sure how credible any of this stuff is. I wouldn't bet my life on any of this info personally.:D

Also not sure how much Russia or China are really behind present regime in Syria, if things get any nastier, do they really want to be associated or help a regime that looks weaker by the day and shoots so many of its own people? We might be seeing the beginnings of a civil war in Syria or Egypt for that matter, not sure Western powers, Russia or China want to be seen taking sides.

The main concern is that a breakup of Syria could lead to a much bigger mess in the region with dangerous implications. My view is that in private, many countries including Israel, would want Assad to stay in power.

For all intents and purposes, there is already a civil war in Syria. The key difference with the situation in Libya is that the rebels/terrorists /dissidents [depends on who you ask] do not have a firm leadership and are not as well armed. Foreign powers have long taken sides in the Middle East.......

Now a Russian task force is on it's way; apparently scheduled for a year. See Russia Today website. What is going on? Are the military powers playing some sort of hedging game?

The Bush deployed on 11 May, so this is just a normal outchop for home and on the 25th she did a port visit to Marseille, France. Much ado about nothing.
