As a following to the request made by the army of an improved version of the Cantauro wheeled tank destroyer, called Centauro 2 and now in production, and of the A129 Mangusta attack helicopter in 2016, recently the army started the development of a new version of the italian Main Battle Tank Ariete, simply called Ariete 2.
Not much is known on what the upgraded will be like, the only thing known is that the tank wil be researched and produced by IVECO and OtoMalara.

The army is planning to have 200 Ariete 2 by 2028 to be used together with the older 200 Ariete.
Together with this project, has been started also the research for the creation of the Lince 2 (NEC) that would be an upgrade of the older version with Network Enabled Capabilities and is planned to arrive to a total of 3850 vehicle together with the older version of the Lince in 2034.

This year also will start the replacment of the older VM-90 Torpedo camion with the new IVECO MUV 70.20 for a total of 2000 camion.
