Musharraf pledges better equipped PAF
SARGODHA: The president pledged to strengthen the Air Force during his marathon speech at a well-packed ceremony at the PAF airbase in Sargodha held to rename it after the late Air Chief Marshal Mushaf Ali Mir as “the PAF Base Mushaf”.
“The government will not leave any stone unturned to further strengthen the Air Force which is need of the hour of the three services. In fact, the Air Force is being given a top priority. And by the grace of Allah, a lot is happening in this area,” Pervez Musharraf said.
President Musharraf said the government was aware of the areas, which required emphasis to strengthen the PAF, and then praised the decision to rename one of the best bases after the late Air Chief Ali Mir who “rendered valuable services for the country and the PAF”.
Earlier, the president unveiled a plaque to rename the PAF base Sargodha as the PAF Base Mushaf. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Kalim Saadat, in his address said that the PAF “stood up to the challenges and that the Mushaf Sargodha base had always played an important role in this regard”.
The ceremony then saw a fly past by a variety of PAF fighter jets that included F-16s, Mirages and F-7. The president announced a donation of Rs one million for the welfare of personnel performing duties at the Mushaf base.
He also visited the headquarters of an army air defence division where he was briefed about operations, training, administration and welfare of the troops by the Commander of the Army Air Defence, Lt Gen Muhammad Khateer Hassan Khan, and General Officer Commanding Maj Gen Muhammad Saleem
