Musharraf pledges better equipped PAF

SARGODHA: The president pledged to strengthen the Air Force during his marathon speech at a well-packed ceremony at the PAF airbase in Sargodha held to rename it after the late Air Chief Marshal Mushaf Ali Mir as “the PAF Base Mushaf”.

“The government will not leave any stone unturned to further strengthen the Air Force which is need of the hour of the three services. In fact, the Air Force is being given a top priority. And by the grace of Allah, a lot is happening in this area,” Pervez Musharraf said.

President Musharraf said the government was aware of the areas, which required emphasis to strengthen the PAF, and then praised the decision to rename one of the best bases after the late Air Chief Ali Mir who “rendered valuable services for the country and the PAF”.

Earlier, the president unveiled a plaque to rename the PAF base Sargodha as the PAF Base Mushaf. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Kalim Saadat, in his address said that the PAF “stood up to the challenges and that the Mushaf Sargodha base had always played an important role in this regard”.

The ceremony then saw a fly past by a variety of PAF fighter jets that included F-16s, Mirages and F-7. The president announced a donation of Rs one million for the welfare of personnel performing duties at the Mushaf base.

He also visited the headquarters of an army air defence division where he was briefed about operations, training, administration and welfare of the troops by the Commander of the Army Air Defence, Lt Gen Muhammad Khateer Hassan Khan, and General Officer Commanding Maj Gen Muhammad Saleem

itz about time someone thought of that!

What PAF need right now is

Put current F16 fleet through MLU , and try to get MRAA either Southafrica or some other source

Get further used F16's and MLU those aswell

look for an AWACS ASAP.....once indian switch on Palcons then hell they can see 200+ miles inside our airspace

keep working on JF17 and kick start its production ASAP even though suggested date is 2005

Yes.....Naval-wise and Army-wise Pakistan and India are equal though favourable to India with their sheer numbers...Establishing a modern, dominant Air Force would swing the equation closer to Pakistan...

Of course we're all forgetting this could all lead to a several-million man nuclear war in and around the Himalayas but what the hell.... :roll

The only high-tech aircraft PAF is going to purchase is Mirage 2000-5. Some reports claimed in the past that Pakistan is negotiating for turkish F-16s. Latest reports say that Pakistan is interested in Rafale and Gripens but I dont know whether PAF is negotiating for these or not.

Holland is closing Twenthe f-16 airforce base... so 29 F-16Am/BM will be available for potential sale. Rafales are too expensive and pakistan already has too many mirages!

I was talking about mirage 2000-5 (tactical fighter) and not about mirage III (light fighter). And by the passage of time, Rafale will be affordble to PAF. Remember, we will be giving 50 million for each mirage 2000-5.

well there is a news on Jang that US is willing to give F16's to pakistan but must aprove from Congress
I dont think Congress will release F-16s for Pakistan. The sanctions were imposed by the congress. And if it agrees to sell F-16s, then those F-16s will be second hand.
