Just wanted to share a short doco on US navy Autonomous swarm boats

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN3A7z9diT4

Are we heading towards picket ships that will be Autonomous and can take damage while manned ships will be the offensive part of the fleet ?
tasking development

eg swarming USV's mobbing around for ASW,
mobbing and patrol in harbour management,
acting as mobile bearers for an advancing array

endless possibilities....

its another layer added to the onion rings

Bit of a shame that they can't be locally produced.
Not really, there's no sentiment in commercial operations and tug owners aren't about to support the low productivity and high wages which would occur here.
Low productivity because there is no current yard tooled up to produce these tugs and local wages and labour relations are very different to VN.

Not so long ago when shipbuilding subsidies were around we did build many types of commercial vessels including tugs

Producing warships is a very different prospect.

Taiwanese government offically signed the contract for their indigenous submarine programme. Not mentioned in the link but they also trying to use HSLA-80 instead of HY-80 for their submarine, warship and even infrastructures such as bridges to achieve economic of scale for the steel mill. Just wonder, how's HSLA-80 compares with HY-80?

The nominee for Air Force Secretary backs the F-35, stating that the F15 / 16 / 18 aircraft lacked the F-35 stealth capabilities.
The Air Force secretary nominee on Thursday all but canceled out President Trump’s previous threats to replace the Lockheed Martin-made F-35 with Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet, saying the Boeing jet didn’t have a needed stealth capability.
Former Rep. Heather Wilson (R-N.M.) told the Senate Armed Services Committee she believed that the Air Force could not give F-18 fighter jets the same stealth capabilities the F-35 already holds.
“I don’t think you can do [that] with an F-18 or an F-15 or an F-16, to give it stealth capability retroactively,” she told lawmakers during her nomination hearing.

Of course there are other capabilities that the F-35 has that none of the teen series of aircraft have or are intended to have.

Breaking Defense also has a piece on the new JSF chief, a naval guy. Perhaps he will prevent any scaling back of F-35Cs in favour of excess SHs. As for the ASHs, are new enhanced engines even close to being ready?
