A new report to the U.S. Congress assessing a Chinese submarine-launched missile known as the YJ-18 highlights the danger, noting the missile accelerates to supersonic speed just before hitting its target, making it harder for a crew to defend their ship.

And your point being? If you can see it you can kill it. The Russians have Supersonic AShMs so it's not exactly a new threat.

The USN have been training against a supersonic threat far greater in volume and ability for the last 50 years.

all systems are a latent threat - all systems can be countered at some point in time

This kind of breathless reporting that you see about supersonic ship killers demonstrates how bad defence technology reporting is

It also demonstrates what I've oft said - that the internet is making a lot of people dumber as they take it at face value and have no awareness of what happens in real life etc....

real life tech experience trumps journalism any day.......

The YJ18 is most underlook carrier threats. She will be used not the DF21D. Regardless how good USA carrier prepared herself for such weapons, there is no way to prepare her skipper becoming the food of sharks, upon saturation attack.

Imagine firing 100 YJ18 against a carrier.

Best thing is, firing DF21D ballistic missile may risk escalation. But YJ18 is entirely a "non sensitive" weapon.

Hundreds and thousands may be deployed littorally or onboard mobile platform.

USA carrier in West Pacific like Spratly is going to be a joke in no time.

for goodness sake, lets not set ourselves up as a troll by making silly statements just to make a point

talking about lobbing a 100 YJ18's against a carrier without even considering what vessels can deploy - what that footprint message would send well in advance of any TF arriving on station

No consideration given to pre-deployment INT tells
No consideration given to what vessels can actually deploy and cause a threat
No consideration given to how TF actually respond to anticipated threats
No consideration given to how TF are constructed and layered defence
No consideration given to how a TF actually forms their operating picture - let alone a war posture

quite frankly you are not cementing any credibility about how these events work, evolve and are managed - you're starting to sound very much like someone who has suspended critical thimking and is a fanboi of platform centric solutions

take this as a warning to lift your game as you're not impressing people at present

if you want to be seen as credible then you need to do much better.
