The 2011 MCAS Miramar Air Show was held Sep 30 - Oct 2. In keeping with the spirit of the Centennial of Naval Aviation, the theme this year was A Salute to San Diego: The Birthplace of Naval Aviation 1911 - 2011. Headlining the show were the US Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team and the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF). They were joined by F/A-18E Superhornet Demo Team from NAS Lemoore; AV-8B Harrier from MCAS Yuma; USAF Viper West F-16 Demo Team from Hill AFB; and US Navy Seals Leap Frogs & US Army Golden Knights Parachute Demo Teams.

Celebrating San Diego's contribution to training Navy and Marine Aviators there was a Trainer Parade featuring Stearmans, T-6/SNJ's, T-28's, T-34's; and a T-33 Shooting Star. Other warbirds featured were an F8F Bearcat that appeared in the Legacy Flight & a mock dog fight with an A6M Zero; a P-51 Mustang that flew in the Heritage Flight and a B-25 Mitchell. Civillian performers included Jon Collver's AT-6 War Dog, Sean Tucker's Oracle Challenger, Silver Wings Wing Walking Team and the Red Bull Helicopter.

Static displays ran the gamut of active & retired military aircraft including several warbirds from the Flying Leathernecks Museum, US Navy & Marine Corps F-5e's and F-16N's and several aircraft with retro paint jobs for the Centennial of Naval Aviation.

The show was excellent as regular attendees have come to expect and the weather was the best it's been in the 5 years I've been attending Miramar. Evidently the new PAO has some connections upstairs as the marine layer was off duty on Saturday & Sunday.

New gallery open & additional photos will be uploaded as soon as I can process them.
