Can all C-130s do this?

Hello everyone,

During the 2011 Sun N Fun Flyin I was able to record the Blue Angels for the first time. The Blue Angels have a C-130 they call Fat Albert. I could not believe how short this plane landed. Can all C-130's land in such a extreme way? I also didn't know it could go backwards either. I thought the C-17 was the only one that can do that.

Yep, All C130's are that capable. The first ytime you experience a short field landing you'd swear you just crashed. The US Navy experimented with using C130's as COD aircraft to deliver aircraft engines and other outsized payloads to carriers whilst as sea. The C130's used for the demo just had the Maxaret antilock braking system upgraded, then proceeded to make a series of landings and takeoff from a USN carrier without recourse to arrestor wires or catapaults.

IIRC, they worked out the the hercs could deliver or take a 10 tonne payload onto or off the carrier deck. Not used in regular service as the wingtip clearance was only 2 feet to the island (So a tad risky), but yeah, well possible.

That's incredible! I have seen the South African Air Force (SAAF) do a short field landing at AFB Ysterplaat in Cape Town the angle of attack is ridiculous. But the carrier landings sound insane!:D

Yeah we bought the super herc of late iun IAF,and it has performed extremely well.In recent uttarakhand floods it performed with very good serviceability rate.We are certain to get 6 more to existing 6 and probably total 24 to equip our 10000-15000 paras and special forces with this plane's short takeoff/landing ability, especially useful in the northern chinese border where road infrastructure is difficult but airstrips are being activated.
Excellent video,thanks.
