The headline "Welcome to Hell on Earth" has done its job - got a lot of publicity for the weather folk who used it (Higgins).
Plays into the alarmist mindset we are all now pushed to adopt. Everything is expressed in hyperbole.
Of course it is absolute nonesense.
It is summer in Australia!! It has been hot in Australia in parts in summer.
Nothing compared to Iraq in summer.
Now if they were referring to SA with stupid energy policies that are coming home to bite, then fair enough. When they talk of "energy shedding" it is just weasel words for rationing. Part of the great experiment of increasing population at rapid rate and at same time not increasing utilities (water, electricity).
Even though not directly related, remember talk of not "gold plating" the transmission network just to accomodate a couple of days use a year?? Well no one much cared as it was winter when they talked about it and promised it would help with stopping energy cost rises. Well now in summer it doesn't seem such a good idea anymore, does it? But too late to realise that.

Sorry about the rant, but it makes me hate the way we are going here.

My oldest sister lives in Merredin, WA and she said that today her thermometer in the porch at the back of her house is reading 12 Degrees C which is cooler than it is in Invercargill, the bottom of the South Island NZ where its 18 at the moment. She comes from Invercargill. So go figure.
