Future of the Defence Industry

With the war toning down in the coming years and mounting fiscal stress, how do you guys view the future of the defense industry?
For example General Dynamics, with their products ranging from Abrams and Predator drones, do you see a huge downsizing in the industry like what happened at the end of the Cold War?
Will this lead to less funds for future weapons?
Will this lead to less order?
And if it will, in what time frame?

The happening of the rapid advance of military technology is now a current, and future fact of the state of affairs on matters pertaining to military advancement. However, when peace is perceived in the surrounding neighborhood, then perhaps, the armed forces have the consideration at their disposal, to train their personnel in the best manner possible. When there is disharmony, and military advancements are needed at a rapid rate, then the armed forces are not at an advantage. The defense industry needs to work in close cooperation with the military establishment, to further the interests of the military establishment for the further interests of the nation. The defense industry has always been of secondary consideration to the military preparedness of the armed forces. If the world scenario is peaceful, then there will perhaps be better cooperation and coordination between the armed forces and the defense industry, to the betterment of the defense industry. I am a great admirer of the military development capabilities of Dassault Breguet.

Assuming we are looking at the US defense industry, look for Cyber (to include IO/IA/EW as well as the traditional cyber warfare/security) and UAS/UCAV to be the big growth markets.

If the war comes to a close, in the near future, of course the manufacture and sale of fighting vehicles will be strongly affected. Regarding UAS during peacetime, programs like Boeing's ScanEagle have had some success in non-combat capacities as well as in a leasing role. Look for some possible shift towards these type of demands in the future as well.

My two cents.
