The U.S. Marines are considering adopting a version of the M16A4 with a collapsible butt stock to help in close corters fighting while keeping the 20 inch barrel.

Also the U.S. Army is planing on keeping the M24 sniper rifle and up grading it to the .300 Winchester mag to hit targets at over 1200m. Currently they have the M110 in .308 to hit targets at 800mm and the M82 Barret to hit light vehicles, enemy equipment and even helicopters at 2500mm but the weapon weighs 30 lbs and is not for anti personal targets so they needs a weapon the can fill the gap and have the best of all 3.
