US-Romania Missile Defense Agreement Takes Effect

The following is the text of a joint announcement between the United States and Romania:
The United States and Romania are pleased to jointly announce that the Ballistic Missile Defense Agreement on deployment of the U.S. ballistic missile defense system in Romania has entered into force, effective December 23, 2011.
The U.S. ballistic missile defense interceptor site will be located at Deveselu Air Base as a part of the European Phased Adaptive Approach to missile defense in the 2015 timeframe.
This base represents a significant contribution by our two nations to NATO’s missile defense efforts.
