NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. (AFPN) -- Capt. Erik Jacobson reads a pre-flight checklists during Red Flag 06-1, here Jan. 21 to Feb. 18. Red Flag is an exercise that tests aircrews' warfighting skills. Flights involve more than 100 aircraft, including B-52 Stratofortresses and F-16 Fighting Falcons. The aircraft are flying missions day and night to the nearby Nevada Test and Training Range where they simulate an air war. Along with the Air Force, units from the Army, Navy, NATO and several allied countries are participating.
