Australian Leopard AS1's went through a minor upgrade during the late 90's after they were moved to Darwin. Temperature's of up to 50degrees were being experienced by the troopers so they undertook a number of measures including this "Barracuda" thermal shield system to help reduce the temperature inside the tank. It also remarkably reduces the thermal signature of the tank, rendering it a bit harder to find. Don't be surprised to see something similar on Aussie M1A1's when they arrive...
