MOSCOW: Russia said Monday it was greatly disappointed by Iran's nuclear policies after a critical report on them by the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency last week.
The agency report "showed that Iran was not fulfilling the resolutions of the (IAEA) board of governors and the (UN) Security Council," Interfax news agency quoted deputy foreign minister Sergei Kislyak as saying.
"It evokes great disappointment... We hope Tehran will review its position."
The report, released on Wednesday, said that Iran was continuing to defy UN demands to stop enriching uranium, and was expanding its work.
Russia's close cooperation with Iran's civilian nuclear program has weakened in recent months amid a financing spat that has delayed Russia's construction of Iran's first nuclear power station.
Russia has previously resisted urgings from Washington, which suspects Iran of harbouring a covert nuclear weapons program, to increase pressure on Iran to open its civilian nuclear program to closer scrutiny.
