Pakistan kicks-off missile tests
Friday, October 3, 2003 Posted: 2:31 AM EDT (0631 GMT)

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan's military says it has successfully tested a medium-range missile capable of carrying conventional or nuclear weapons, the first of several planned launches in the coming days.

The surface-to-surface Hatf-3 Ghaznavi missile has a range of 290 kilometers (180 miles), making it capable of striking several key targets within neighboring nuclear rival, India.

Shortly after the test, military officials released a statement saying India and other neighboring countries had been informed of the test in advance, in accordance with standard procedure.

It did not say where the launch took place.

New Delhi has not made any comment on the Pakistani test.

Earlier this year, Pakistan and India conducted a series of tit-for-tat missile tests, raising fears of a heightened arms race between the two South Asian rivals.

Since achieving independence from Britain in 1947, India and Pakistan have fought three wars, two of them over the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir.

In mid-2002 the two countries stood on the brink of a fourth war amid tensions over what India said was Pakistani support for Islamic militants carrying out terrorist attacks on Indian soil.

Pakistan denies the Indian charges, saying it only gives moral support to groups advocating the right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination.

In recent months the two sides have made tentative steps towards easing tensions, re-establishing full diplomatic ties and re-connecting transport links.

However, both countries retain tens of thousands of troops along their joint frontier and conduct regular missile tests as a way of flexing diplomatic muscle and demonstrating their military readiness.

From what I know, these are basically the same missiles with mid to minor modifications. :!:
Hamza care to explain which two missiles are you referring to. If you are referring to the Hataf III tested now to the one tested some years ago...then it is the SAME missile. Just new test of it.

The test proved that Pakistan is not using M-11 missiles and Ghaznavi is a short range billistic missile.

Pakistan army gets new missile system

Saturday, 21 February , 2004, 23:14

Islamabad: (AFP) President Pervez Musharraf handed an indigenously produced nuclear-capable ballistic missile system to Pakistan's army Saturday, asserting the country would continue to strengthen its deterrent capability.
Musharraf used the handing-over ceremony to reiterate the country had never and would never proliferate its "hard-earned" nuclear technology.

Musharraf this month conditionally pardoned the architect of Pakistan's nuclear program, Abdul Qadeer Khan, after he admitted to selling nuclear secrets abroad.

The president told the gathering that some individuals had carried out proliferation from 1998-99 for personal greed through misuse of autonomy and authority.

Nevertheless this aberration was checked when institutional arrangements were put in place, he said.

He assured the world that the proliferation network had been uprooted within Pakistan and Islamabad was cooperating with the international community in wiping out international nuclear black market network.

The solid-fuel Hatf-111 (Ghaznavi) missile system that was handed to the Army Strategic Force Command will form an integral part of Pakistan's operational deterrent system, which also includes Shaheen and Ghauri intermediate missiles, Musharraf said.

The Ghaznavi has a range of 290 kilometers and was successfully test fired in 2002 and 2003.

Musharraf said that during the past four years his government had demonstrated its resolve to strengthen the country's defense.

Most of these are test pictures. Sadly, you don't get to hear anything about the missiles after the tests and only time you do hear or see them is when they enter service with the Army.
