Question on MCM sonars

I was under the impression that the low frequency sonars mounted on MCMs vessels were hull mounted, similar to hull mounted ASW sonars. It seems that some or most MCM vessels have sonars that are stored in the hull but are lowered into the water when the vessel is engaged in minehunting ops, would it be accurate to describe these sonars as variable depth sonars [VDS] or is another term used? Also, are any minehunting sonars hull mounted? Thank you.
