G'Day all,
Recently it has seemed theres been a decent recruiting campaign on by the RAN, however, I've noticed that there now are really advertising for submariners. Are we really short of submariners or is there a planned expansion of the sub fleet? I do realise our navy needs alot more recruits but i thought we were alright with our subs.

You can never have too many submariners.

When I served in the USN about one of every 150 recruits volunteered for sub service.

Of that about one of three ever saw service on submarines.

So for every 450 recruits you might find ONE diamond in the rough.

And of that maybe ten or twenty out of a hundred man submarine crew were/are what you would say born to the calling.

Not to disparage the others by any means but to be a true submariner is to embrace a grueling lifestyle. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week for months and sometimes longer at a time.

But of course thats just my experience.
