Hello to all you Armchair Generals out there, just a what if? scenario occured in Asia involving China and her thirst for resources.
Currently China is one the the world's largest natural resource consumers and Chinese demand is surely only going to increase leading to greater demand. Say this demand cannot be satisfied by peaceful means (trade, etc) and China needed to go out and get the resources they needed how would they go about it?
Ultimately the vast mineral and energy desposits (Oil, Natural Gas, Coal, Uranium, etc) in Australia and the Middle-East are the goal, with other desposits in South-East Asia, Mongolia and the old Soviet republics an end to the means (Rubber, Oil, Natural Gas, various Minerals).

Initially I would employ vast numbers of Chinese agents to initiate and supply conflicts and insurgencies (Chechyna, Basque separatists, IRA, etc) in order to focus world attention elsewhere whilst bigging up support for North Korea and Pakistan (drawn in purely by manipulating past tensions with India).
First moves would be the annexations of Taiwan, Mongolia and resource rich regions of the old Soviet republics whilst avoiding war, in a similar manner to Hitler's appeasement methods pre-WW2.
A massive offensive from Chinese backed North Korean forces would be unleashed against South Korea, and following the success on the peninsula would follow up with a move against Japan (In an effort to secure China's northern flank), simultaneously Chinese troops would march into Indochina and Myanmar to secure the resources located there.
The world begins to act and mobilize, however most nations are still more concerned with matters closer to home.
Chinese troops continue on to Thailand and Malaysia, with their flank guarded by a Pakistani invasion of India. India, facing a two-front campaign and caught un-aware quickly folds.
Chinese troops invade the Phillipines, in an effort to reach out to the Pacific and start to isolate Australia.
Continuing on from the invasion of Japan, a Sino-North Korean force strike out and attack Midway and then Hawaii preventing the US from using it as a staging post for Asian intervention.
Small numbers of European and US forces begin to arrive in Australia.
After making massive overtues and promises (think the Vichy regime in France) Indonesian military officers stage a coup and pledges to support an invasion of Australia (again with China having manipulated the support via past tensions).
Indonesian forces rapidly make moves through out the Solomon Islands and out to Fiji, further isolating Australia.
Chinese and Indonesian forces invade Australia via Darwin and four other northern coastal towns and operate in three prongs, down the east and west coasts and through the centre (to secure mineral and energy deposits).
With the resources now secured all efforts would switch to pacification of controlled areas and defensive preperation.

What moves would you make and Alliances would you attempt to forge?
