Two month from now will be the anniversary of the arnhem tragedy. I would like to salute the members of the British 1st Airborne Division (especially Col. Frost 2nd Battalion) who still live or have died, for their heroic deeds and the show of bravery under overwhelming odds at arnhem 1944.

Don't forget the Yanks who went in at Eindhoven and Nijmegen and the Poles that also dropped at Arnhem in the same operation. And all the Brits and Canadians and other commonwealth troops involved in securing a ground corridor.

At least the yanks have better chance and only facing an infantry units. The Brits on the other hand landed on top of two SS Panzer Division, no radios, no air support and the supplies were dropped on the German side.

A good bit of those 2 Panzer div's also operated in the Nijmegen area (it's just a few km away). And armor was used at various points along the route to cut the route from Belgium north into Holland.

And... "facing only infantry units" ... the yanks rowed across a river in rubber dinghies and assault boats in daylight under murderous enemy fire and still succeeded to capture the north end of the Nijmegen bridge ... not too many other units capable of pulling that off.

Yes, But with a support of 30th corps tanks which arrive just in time and not to mention smoke cover provided by the tank guns.
