This story relates to a few of the problems we had in Vietnam and why so many, even today, think we lost that war. By the way,...we did not ! One, Leadership was not a command function..they weren't there when needed. So many just 'punching their tickets' to obatin promotion and extend their careers. Two, why continually under estimate the enemy.......they have been fighting for over 1000 years....and us...heck we just got there. The bombing....or Arty prior to an offensive action was always a give away...heck the kids in Vietnam knew that.
So bomb them all day and recon the area next week.....next month...whatever.
Nothing, except taking it to them, was really acceptable and we seldom did that.
These guys never had a chance and their 'leadership' was invisible ! May you all rest in peace.

I'll be very interested in seeing this. Vietnam is still such a huge controversy and mystery to why it was fought the way it was.
