Soviet resurgence

After1991 the Warsaw Pact collapsed as did the Soviet Union. The U.S. promised that it would unify Germany and not interfere with the former Warsaw pact members.NATO should have disbanded in 1991.It expanded NATO,however, to include not only Poland, for instance, but former Soviet Socialist Republics like Latvia. What does the U.S. have to prove by castrating Russia? Now the U.S. military is in over it's head in Iraq and NATO is in Afghanistan.A resurgent Russia could invade Georgia and cut off energy to eastern europe. The only way to stop a Russian invasion of Poland would be a nuclear war. This would be a good way for Russia to get it's revenge.Could The U.S. fight the Islamic Fundamentalists in Iraq and Afghanistan and Russia at the same time? Not only that, but Russia is friendly with Iran now. It's time for The Russian Bear to awake from hibernation.

Sounds like a bunch of crap.... Russian leadership likes their comfortable positions to much for any real political adventuring.

Not to mention all the other things wrong with your analysis.

I doubt very much that Russia would want to cut off energy from Eastern Europe, as a matter of fact its building additional pipelines to bypass "agitator" states such as Ukraine or Georgia and the northern pipeline through the Baltic only to deliver more oil to Eastern and Western Europe. Russia doesnt want to starve or power deprive Europe, its a way not to make friends, the EU inspectors last year did say that Ukraine was at fault siphoning gas, which was not meant for i.

As soon as the EU (note E in U stands for European <east or west> ) inspectors were in place the gas flow resumed.

Russia doesn't want to invade Poland, it wants to sell Gas to Poland! Invading it would mean Russia would have to sell Gas at a discount!!!

Yes it can, but cant afford to, if it does do this then what will happen is US will incur more debt to the super capitalist in waiting, China. Any more debt and.. well... cant afford to fight.

I just came back home from a China version of wall mart with a can of Steak dinner flavor Lays Chips. If US gives China any more money, China will just build another US in the Pacific and move in themselves. Mmmm Steak flavour Lays Chips.

Sure is, Russia is also friendly with India, and has not made China too angry, and is friendly with France, and much of Europe, and a few countries in South and Central America, and with Central Asia, ( Do a search for Shanghai Co-operative Organization SCARY STUFF! )... the bear is awake and he is smarter than the average bear of the CCCP/USSR...

I think the best type of economy should be the controlled Capitalist version of which China is using, and I think the new resurgent Russia should mould their economy in that way.

I concurr, as one right now living in China, I can see the benefits of the government driven capitalism, the problem in Russia that must be dealt with is corruption, in China it is punishable by death, and this is the right way to do it.

Believe it or not the Bear will not have any roads to walk on, as an example, 1 km of highway is on average 12 times more expensive to construct in Russia than in the United States
why? Corruption? everyone expects a bribe...

my father is in Russia right now said that the ship yards such as Zvezdochka, or the Moscow Instutue of Teplotexnika barely resceived enough money for operation purposes, let alone enough to build the Bulava, the internal papers in Russia is that about 5% of the total funds allocated for the development and construction of the Bulava missle actually made it to the workshop floor. While Comrade Putin puts on a great show, he still does not crack down on corruption enough.

The bear has fleas, and fat corrupt ticks.

More like vampire bats. Corruption has skyrocketed under Putin. Given how wide spread the bureaucracy is, corruption is also largely responsible for the improvement of standards of living in Russia right now. The problem is the long term, and the siloviki are not equipped to deal with it.

I think you are fundamentally misunderstanding the Chinese economic model if you think it can simply be "used" in Russia.

Russia is using a "controlled Capitalist" model; it most certainly is not a true free market economy. Russia has more in common with China than the west in terms of domestic economic policy. China's growth over the last 20 years has been driven by a very specific set of circumstances i.e. you can’t just replicate China's "success" by having a "socialist free market" economic model, its far more complicated than that.

I'm not sure who you're talking to, but let me assure you I and others here are not ignorant. If you have a point or an argument to make feel free to do so. Throwing around insults without anything to back it up is rude and inappropriate.

Mmm, from what i know, i would rather say that corruption skyrocketed under Yeltsin and decreased slightly under Putin. Although it makes a difference wether you look at "up top" corruption and lower in the "chain of command".

USSR is dead and gone. Its an extremely bad error of thinking to bundle up USSR and Russia as if it was the same. Its not.
The ones still clinging to cold war politics are the former Warzaw pact member states and to a lesser degree USA.

Going back on the latter promise was stupid as the only possible result would be paranoia in Russia.

Hardly. While a Russian invasion is extremely unlikely, if it happened Russia would have a hard time with just Polish defense and its very unlikely that the rest of Europe would sit silently on the sideline if it happened. Germany and France would almost be guaranteed to respond in force. Hungary, Czechs and Slovaks would also be close enough for discomfort, while UK would probably act on similar basis as France("needs doin"...). And the reaction in Ukraine could be anything from loud shouting to all out declaration of war...

Keep raising gas prices until they´re inline with international prices and make lots of cash doing it sounds like much more fun to me.
Dont forget it was WTO that practically ORDERED Russia to raise gas prices for export to Ukraine to the same levels as Russians were already paying the first time Ukraine started messing with delivieries to west Europe(in the end the raise went halfway the first time around).

NATO is helluvalot more scary if you look without the ideological/prejudice blindfolds that 50 years of coldwar propaganda has left i would say.
