RAN Recruiting Knock Back

Hello everyone. I'm new to this game. Computers and forum surfing.

I have had an interest in the military most of my life. Many of my family have been in the forces. Father in-law the Air Force, Father the Army, Brother in-law Navy and two Nephew's Navy. I nearly enlisted in the army in 75 but we didn't go to East Timor.

Now my son has applied for enlistment into the RAN. I have never seen so much time pass with so much bureaucracy. It has been 18 months of waiting and now they're knocking him back on a minor medical condition. Yes of course we are contesting it, he's as strong as and ox. I'm hoping my son doesn't lose interest and give up with another waiting game pending.

I have spoken to my sister and she said my nephew went through the same thing. He was knocked back because of acne. He contested and then got knocked back on his hearing. Once again he contested as his hearing was fine. At last he got in. My sister said just to expect it.

Is this just incompetence or just what to expect out of a government department.

I think our naval recruiting needs some speeding up in it's processes, otherwise some of our young men and women will give up and find another path.

Is there anyone else having similar problems?

ps. My advice is to get an expert medical assessment (ortho, Neuro, Skin etc) letter prior to applying. It might expedite things.

All that time sorting out my medical, I missed out my first job preference so had to go with second preference.

Asking everyone that was at the pre finess test most of them had to wait at least 12 months to 24 months to get enlisted

No problems Paul, I off to Cerberus 1st Monday in March. Looking forward to a exciting career change.

Sounds like a rather common issue across the field. In in NZL and they too fluff around with their medical's.

Hey Krieg, my son's first preference is Hydrography. We'll see if he gets it. Still getting the run around. Fingers crossed!

Heads Up! Last Post!

Well they went and done it again. The RAN have knocked back my son again.

He filled out his paper work. Being far too honest he ticked the boxes that he gets a head ache and indigestion from time to time, and that's no good for the Navy.

So that tears it. He's given up after 2 years of trying, and the Navy can go and bang it.

A mate told me don't worry, they've done him a favor. I don't know what he means by that, but you look forward. We've wasted enough time on this failed venture.

My son is very smart, strong and a team leader. I never seen him so committed and now he's gutted.

RAN you've missed a career man. Your loss!!!!

For what it's worth, my advice would be to tick every single box "no" to any medical conditions that aren't immediately obvious nor detectable through the low level standardised testing ADF does.

Why should crap like acne effect your career?

I never told Army I'm an asthmatic. Never affected my service...
