Mate, don't worry about not knowing the answers - and don't worry about expertise, there is no shortage of people who will be willing to help.

Everyone started off at some stage with zero knowledge - and everyone is still learning new things - no matter what their knowledge levels are now.

welcome and enjoy

I have long been a military enthusiast, but I have no military background. Chance had it that I did not join a military academy, although I was highly determined to do so at one point in my life.

These days I find myself a writer (by night; by day, I'm an academic--a teacher and researcher in the social sciences).

Howdy folks, name's Alex, I'm 19 and I'm a student studying Criminology at uni in the North West of England, UK.

I've been a military/weapons enthusiast since I was about 7 years old, having gotten into the art of war through WWII-scenario table-top gaming with my father (who always seemed to beat me). Then came along the likes of Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, as well as a host of war-oriented video-games and ever since then I've been studying the field of warfare and military strategy/tactics as something of a hobby. Politics is also something I have an interest in.

There's a supreme irony to be extracted from this as, while I have a fascination with all things military, I can't actually serve due to a hearing impairment which I was born with. I'm deaf, basically. Which sucks big time considering I had aspirations of going into UKSF.

Anyhow, I look forward to discussing defence topics with everyone, it's great to find a forum such as this and a real pleasure to be here.

Spooky, your background almost exactly echo's mine except for a few minor details (Mechanical Engineering - Cardiff, more around 15 - 16 when I got into it, Dad didn't get involved - it was my hobby)

Welcome aboard. Have a flick through the forum rules (basically, don't be a knob ) + enjoy your time here.

Hi From N.Ireland

Hello all, a friend recommended this forum, I've had a lurk and you guys seem to know your stuff, I am a Combatives Instructor and teach hand to hand combat that I deem reliable from 20 years experience of various Martial Arts, basically last resort stuff that hopefully no one will ever need, I like to keep my fingers on the pulse of world affairs, here seems like a good place for that, thanks for having me,

Hi.

Hi. Just signed up for DefenceTalk Forums.

What interesting times were living in. Passive Radar v Stealth, Drones, its like Star Wars.
Keeping an eye on the Pivot? Just read the latest article here about the US/Jap exercises. My opinion is that China must be stopped. Their claims are ridiculous and others might decide to apply them and all hell will break loose, something I don't think they care about. It just might be that their is no solution to the problem but that is no excuse to start threatening all their neighbors. Its great to see how the Navy and Marines etc were sent in a constrained fashion to let China know were not playing with them.

Hello all,

after having browsed around this site a bit I felt comfortable joining. It seems like you have a civilized and knowledgable user base.

The closest I've come to personal military knowledge of any kind is playing many strategic and tactical games over the years and reading about various historical battles. However, I have a general interest in geopolitics and history, and the military plays a large role in these things.

Additionaly I am an author and the protagonist of the book I am currently writing is a soldier/warrior, so I hope to glean some information from this site when I run out of ideas and/or knowledge pertaining to certain military situations.

Greetings from
Pirx

Intro

Hi all!

I'm an Executive Recruiter focused on the aerospace/defense industry, working primarily with Engineers. I try to stay up on the latest industry news and chatter so I'm glad to find this group.

One question maybe you guys can help me with - MOD EDIT: text removed.

Thanks!
Alina
