South African Defence Review

The current South African Defence Review is at the Second Draft stage. IMHO it is an interesting mix of (frank and honest) hard-nosed realism about the current dysfunctional state of many of the structures, systems and components of the SANDF as well as (justified?) optimism about fixing the problems and surprisingly ambitious about future developments and capabilities. What remains to be seen is how receptive and responsive the political powers will be to the recommendations and proposals contained in the report. How many of them will survive the editing process to the final document is also an open question. See - defence review publications
