Future conservative government, lethal for british defence ??

The probable future british government will be conservative as most polls say, the main question for them is to cut the public spending, they say labour they spend too much and they want to cut the deficit.
Do you think they will cut vital projects for british defence such as the jsf f 35 fighter, the 2 carriers or the eurofighter program, ?? the A 400 in my opinion could be revised but the carriers and the jsf program are vital for british defence, I hope they don,t cut them as the armed forces are overstretched, Concerning to the navy I hope they don,t cut the number of escorts down the minimal number of 20.

The Conservatives will review UK defence in detail, cuts will come, hopefully from reducing waste at the MOD. Money can also be saved by buying off-the-shelf items, similar to what has been achieved through UOR's for A-Stan.

How can they cut both F35B & Typhoon, with Harrier and Tornado approaching their sell-by-date the UK would end up with zero modern CAP/CAS assets like Ireland and NZ?

With General Dannet coming on board as a retained security advisor we will see a restructuring of the military with the focus being on ISTAR, SF, UCAV, UAV, Helo's and asymmetrical warfare. The Carriers are critical power projection assets, so if the decision to cancel the QE' class proceeds then we will see cheaper 'through the deck cruisers' appear again, the same as we witnessed last time the planned strike carriers were cut. In hindsight the RN should have opted for two or three 40K tonne F35B capable LHP's to support the ARG. I think the carriers are doomed simply becase we can't afford all the F35B airframes, escort ships, MASC, MARS assets and buy a new SSBN fleet.

The UK will not walk away from A-Stan unless the USA decides to cut & run, so this will be the focus of the the UK's efforts, which means the army and supporting arms will be the winner in any future equipment decisions.

I think the Conservatives will have very little choice but to cut back on some of the big projects and the most vulnerable seems to be CVF and JCA. The scaremongering about too late to cancel simply do not understand the dynamics of the UK defence market, yes BAe would whine about it, but a bit of negotiation on FSC and confirmation of the recent partnering arrangements will see the fallout reduced.

Anyone who thinks the Conservatives are 'friends' of Defence obviously has never heard or been through Options for Change or Front Line First

The coming Defence Green Paper and subsequent defence review is going to have to recognise the reality of security in the next 20-30 years and in that reality carriers and fast jets don't figure

I would also not overplay the importance of General Sir Richard Dannatt , General Richards is a much more forward thinking and less traditional CDS and likely think we should be moving away from heavy metal.

The A400 is so badly needed that it won't be culled, especially because it fits a perfect niche between the C17 and C130

I think any british politician in the last 40 years is a friend of defence unfortunately.
