Have any of you up here ever wondered that since israel is deathly afraid of Iran and the idea of Iran recieving the rest of the S-300s that haven't been delivered, why hasn't israel focused more on attacking Iran while they are vulnerable rather than Palestine? Israel's greatest fear is of Iran
being a nuclear nightmare, yet Iran is most vulnerable to an attack right now while they lack S-300s. This is why I feel that israel doesn't want Iran attacked due to "nuclear fears." Either Iran
is going to be attacked or it isn't. To say that the S-300 is a "game changer" should be the
main reason why an operation is carried out while they are progressing in their nuclear
programs and still lack the S-300 system.

The israelis make a pretty bogus claim that they knocked out Syria's nuclear site, though up
until the attack no one knew anything of Syria even having a nuclear program, raw material or
even the know-how of nuclear physics. Yet, they feed the claim that they effectively destroyed a nuclear site with a few ATSM. If you believe that israel REALLY attacked a mythical Syrian nuke site, then the question for you is why haven't israel even budged against Iran's nuke sites?
Especially, when Iran is the one that is going through with a military upgrade along WITH it's
well-known nuclear program. Is it israel not capable of doing it and feel that they need time to
convince the USA that "Iran is a threat?" Is it because they feel a war is needed on standby, so
playing Iran up to being a villian serves the purpose? Most of all, if Iran is a nuclear threat why isn't the nation regarded a a nuclear threat by israel? The lack of manner that israel is showing Iran makes one wonder if "the threat" is real.

When Iraq was claimed to have weapons of mass destruction and wanted to rule the world according to the C.I.A., did the USA fiddle and play around with Iraq just as israel is with Iran?
During the Cuban missile crises when Cuba had a range of nuclear missiles that could certainly reach the USA we stood them down until Russia withdrew their missiles FROM Cuba.
I don't agree with the things the USA do, but wouldn't you agree that israel isn't handling Iran
and it's nuclear program in a professional way? It's almost 2010 and we hear the same things today that we heard in 2001 from the IDF. Had it been the other way around, the West and israel would be calling Iran a "warmonger" nation. China doesn't play around with Taiwan in that manner. North Korea doesn't play around with South Korea in that manner. They are serious
about where they stand in their political/military situations. They regard them as private matters and warn the USA to stay out. Israel isn't nearly addressing their conflict against Iran in such
measure

Instead of keeping the tense situation between the two between the two, they want the USA, UK and pals to get involved. Then periodically we hear Iran is a year away from nukes, about
to recieve advanced SAMs, they need to be attacked. If Iran hasn't made nukes in 2006 when israel claimed they were 1 year away, then Iran has no intention of building one. Plus, if israel were to attack Iran, what they have now apparently is as much an effective preventative to thwart Israelis from attacking as much as the S-300 would be. In my opinion the S-300 is just the icing on the cake. I doubt israel would be serious about a war against Iran with or without the S-300
system. Israel experience with Hazbollah forewarns what a conflict with Iran would bring and reveal that every nation isn't a Palestine. Meaning that military conflict isn't even an option on
the table for israel. In my opinion the IDF and prime ministers of israel know that they are not seriously interested in a war against Iran and therefore should be more professional about the matter.

The future plan for the Defence of Australia, some may remember an artical by Ian McPhedran The Daily Telegraph March 25 2008 01:08 PM. Now the title was, " Aircraft carrier on navy's secret $4 bn wish list." When I saw these headlines this grabbed my attention so I bought the paper and read it. The wish list contained the purchase of a third Canberra class assault ship, a forth air warfare destroyer, plus cruise missiles ( tomahawk ). The navy's wish list is very constructive and affordable for Australia's defence structure.

My belief is that Australia should always have one aircraft carrier, that can be used for deploying strike aircraft to a battle field. Australia once had two aircraft carriers at one point, and then in 1982 decomissioned HMAS Melbourne and the purchase of a British Invincible Class Aircraft carrier. Now this deal fell through after the Falklands War. But ever since their has been no move to restore an aircraft carrier to the Australian Navy. A third Canberra Class assault carrier fitted out as an aircraft carrier would benefit Australia's defence by ten fold. Australia is ordering the new F 35 joint strike fighter, the B variant would be able to be used on the aircraft carrier. Not acquiring a third Canberra Class ship would be a wasted opportunity for the Australian Navy. Australia could buy 120 F 35 joint strike fighters, 90 of the C variant ( which has a longer range than the A variant ) and 30 of the B variant model.

Regarding the forth air warfare destroyer, a forth Hobart Class Destroyer would add some depth to the Australian Navy, and my personal belief was that when the decision was made by the then Howard Government back in mid 2007 to chose the Spainish version over the US version, was that the Howard Government was making plans to purchase a forth Hobart Class Destroyer, this was rumored within the Australian media. Now the Hobart Class Destroyer is to replace the Adelaide Class Guided Missile Frigate.which had six units in service at one point. The Australian Government is currently planning to replace these six Adelaide Class Frigates with only three Hobart Class Destroyers. How can you replace six ships with three ships, this is a cheap cop out by the now Rudd Government. A forth Hobart Class Destroyer should be ordered now, and it is not too late to order a forth air warfare destroyer. Plus a fifth air warfare destroyer would be better, but four would be acceptable.

Tomahawk cruise missiles to arm the Hobart Class Destroyers is a must, and maybe the Australian Government requiring a licence to build a Tomahawk variant in Australia would help the Australian Defence Industry. If Australia can afford to buy twelve new submarines when the Government has only barely four submarine crews for the six Collins Class Submarines. The Australian Government can afford this wish list.

So who has the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game Pre-ordered? I am thinking about ordering it, if you have, be sure to post here and maybe we can team up (when I order mine) in multi-player.
http://www.modernwarfare2.com/games.php#/videos?id=6

Here is how you can get the game for $20, the deal does not apply to me as I will be playing it on a PC (AMD Phenom II 940 X4 Quad-Core 3.0Ghz CPU, 8GB G-Skills RAM and EVGA GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card)

Gamers looking to get their hands on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will have the opportunity to preorder the title and pay a net price of $20 if they follow basic guidelines announced recently by retailer Gamestop.

According to the company, anyone who preorders the game from Gamestop.com will have it when it hits store shelves on November 10. If those customers trade in the game by December 13, Gamestop will give them a $40 in-store credit.

Considering Modern Warfare 2 costs $60, that means that those who trade in the title will pay just $20 to play it. It's not a bad deal for frequent gamers who play through a game once and never play it again.

The $40 credit is also available to those who purchase the $80 Modern Warfare 2 Hardened Edition.

i first had the idea for such an alliance about four years ago and it has been developing since i believe the world is much to small for a regional alliance to be elective of projecting power and protecting from current global threats Terrorism and the quickly expanding capabilities that were formally named third world countries as emerging global powerhouses

The United States and other Global Democracies should join forces in a NATOest of the world however its mission would be Terrorism and Global emerging threats to peace and prosperity.

This well have the breathing room to change from countering Iran or North Korea to Countering a possible future threat of China. and the alliances members can have tech sharing and all the great things NATO has i would even suggest the alliance having 2 to 4 nuclear powered carriers paid for by the member nations and crewed by members navies and have aircraft from multiple members the alliance can own a reserve of aircraft that can be deployed to a problem area let me be clear this is not the members owning the carrier or this reserve of aircraft it is the alliance or all the members of the alliance much like NATO AWACS.

i would think members may or may not be the following:
United Kingdom, Egypt, India, Chili, Brazil, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Canada and other democracies that have taken active approaches against Global threats. let me be clear i know that a lot of these members hate each other but one can see many of the members are worming to each other.
i would also suggest a allied ship air and land designs to save on all the alliances R&D. i would also suggest an economic partnership between each member to promote economic dependences that help countries come to gather and grow stronger.
in my prior post i said Nato should be disbanded but i aint sold on that i just do not believe it is as strong as it once was

From my perspective, it seems increasingly likely that as a viable defense alliance, NATO's days are numbered. The likely future of warefare seems be heavily oriented towards long, drawn out asymetric conflicts like Afganistan, which NATO members seem to have a rapidly decreasing political will to fight in.

Canada's former top General has made some scathing comments about NATO recently, refering to it as a "corpse".

NATO "a corpse," fumes former Canada military boss - Yahoo! News

Anyone want to comment of the future of NATO?

Can the alliance survive when many of it's members refuse to or are politically incapable of make meaningfull comitments to it?

Is a NATO member entitled to the benefits of the treaty's defense umbrella if it refuses to fairly honor its responsibilities to fight when called on?

Should the US replace NATO with a smaller, more robust treaty - perhaps built around countries with the political will and capability to make meaningful contibutions to military operations?

How is it fair when small (population wise) countries like Canada and Denmark bear a disproportionat burden of fighting and casualties, when much larger countires like Spain and Germany prohibit thier armies from engaging in the worst of the fighting?

The Canadian Army has about 66,000 active military and has taken 130 casulaties in Afghanistam - 1 casualty per 507 soldiers.

Denmark has about 25,000 active military and has taken 27 casualties - 1 per 925 soldiers.

Germany has 253,000 active military and has taken 39 casualties - 1 per 6487 soldiers.

Spain has 177,000 active military and has taken 26 casualties - 1 per 6807 soldiers.

France, arguably the 2nd most powerful NATO member, has 259,000 active military and has only taken 36 casualties - 1 per 7194.

No wonder Canada is planning on leaving ISAF soon.
I find that mostly the defence companies, particularly the private ones.

The only private consortium i can find that has a significant presence is the Singapore Technology Group. There are a couple of smaller companies in Singapore, however, other than that, the defence industry in the region is lacking.

Does anyone have any ideas on the state of the industry in the region?

I would expect malaysia to have a presence due to its GDP and development index, however i can only find material on STRIDE, a government run defence research industry.
I know this's already around since the beginning of US, culminating on 1861-1865 civil war, and still there. People like Kirkpatrik Sale on South Carolina or Thomas Naylor from Vermont represent some movements in South and New England which demand self partitions. Off course there's still people in Montana, Texas, and others that hold grudges with Federal Government.

Even when I was in US more than 10 years ago during my schooling, the notion of seperation still come out time to time, but only attract the very 'fringe' of society.

Now according to the articles that those grudges increasing, Wheather related to the financial crisis or because Obama accendancy , considering some of the new grudges also comming from area that used to show strong support for Republican (not that I say Republican favor this view).

Look I know the questions even from me look ridicolous, but I just want some insight perhaps from US members from this forum whether this disatisfactions with the Federal Government somehow in future could crystelizes to something that are more serious.

Sorry if this somehow alreday discussed. I try to look from recent thread, and find none that talk about this issue.

Do you think they will cut vital projects for british defence such as the jsf f 35 fighter, the 2 carriers or the eurofighter program, ?? the A 400 in my opinion could be revised but the carriers and the jsf program are vital for british defence, I hope they don,t cut them as the armed forces are overstretched, Concerning to the navy I hope they don,t cut the number of escorts down the minimal number of 20.

There was press coverage that this happened and the coverage mentioned that around 52 new weapon systems were displayed in the celebrations held at Tinnamen Square, these weapon systems are apparently mostly indigeniously developed are being displayed for the first time to the world

However the press reports failed to mentioned any of the weapon systems by name or details. Could someone help me out in this aspect by listing the same with the specs offcourse. Also perhaps we can discuss the same. Also might i add the 'Flower Power' element of the show included a contigent of women officers who were smartly dressed and recieved front page coverage in TOI in India

I've tried to do this before with just the land forces. But for one my list was incomplete, and secondly I realized that with the reforms that the airforce underwent I would need to write up an ORBAT for them also to have any inkling of what's going on if (when) war breaks out again. So I've CnP-ed the info I collected in the previous thread, and am getting to work on collecting more info. I'm looking for any helpful information on units of the Russian armed forces that you can provide. This includes equipment, location, and just plain unit number if the unit isn't already listed. Sources, however, are necessary.

Russian ORBAT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a thread where I would like to try to gather together all I can of the modern Russian Army Order of Battle as it is (will be) after the current reforms are completed. So far info is incomplete and far between, so I'm looking specifically for unit numbers, strength, location, equipment, etc. In general such info tends to come in scraps, across various articles. I'll try to piece together all I can and post it all in a summary.

21st Brigade most likely Motor-Rifles, based in Sofrino.

Disbanded - 2nd Guards Tamanskaya Motor-Rifles and 4th Guards Kantemirovskaya Tank. Two brigades are being formed from each one (4 total). Numbers of the new units are unknown.

Leningrad MD
2nd SpetzNaz Brigade based in Pskov.
I'm not sure if this unit is intended to remain a regiment, or just hasn't undergone reforms yet. It does, however, still exist. I've found listings, also, for a 186th Engineers Brigade at the same location, but they all date older. It's possible that this is the former 186th.
473rd Training Center in Elansk (посёлок Еланск). It's unclear what kind of training center this is.

The article gave me a shock, or maybe I've been away for too long. It's sad to see Izhmash go. If it does, then who's gonna make all the AKs for Russian Ground Forces or even the entire Defense Ministry? Let's not forget the Interior Troops of the MVD and Border Guards... Are they gonna be forced to buy from China instead? (It would be ironic, Chinese copies and counterfeits of the gun are one of the reasons why Izhmash is having this problem)

If this is to happen, Russia will have an even darker future for it's armed forces. With the way things are going, it's already bad enough.

Mr. Kalashnikov should've put a patent on the thing...
