Thumbs up How much does an L-39 Albatross costs? is it better than an S-211?

Which is better? an L-39 Albatross or a S-211 yet both are trainer aircrafts.. The S-211 are the current and only functioning aircraft in our country yet they could'nt fight off the rebels especially the reds.. how come? can anyone please answer both questions..

As to your 2nd question first, with only 2 functioning airframes its very difficult to try to fight off determined fighters/rebels/insurgents what ever you would like to call them. Even with overwhelming air superiority with hundreds of aircraft we are having difficulty fighting off the same fighters/rebels/insurgents in afghanistan.

As to which is more capable the s-211 appears to have better numbers but more countries operate the L-39. Im not sure if this is due to logistics concerns or just priced right to move more frames. Maybe more later when I'm not as busy.

We strongly discourage "X vs Y" threads here, but I'm inclined to let this one stand.. It's part of a specific query, seems to be a genuine attempt to seek information, & I think it could lead to an interesting discussion.

I can't say which is "better". The L-39 sold far more, but part of the reason for that must be that it was adopted as a standard trainer by the Warsaw Pact (following on from the L-29), so was built in very large numbers just for them. It was also included in Soviet military aid packages.

The S.211 was a private venture, and came into the market later. Without a domestic order, it faced a much harder task selling. It can't have been bad: Singapore bought it, & the RSAF is famously choosy.

They're aimed at rather different market niches, I think. The S.211 is much smaller, & the niche it was built for is now generally filled by turboprops. I think this contributed to its small sales. It came along at the wrong time, when some good turboprop trainers came onto the market, & were very hard for it to compete with. Singapore replaced it with turboprops.

The L-39 was aimed more at the niche now occupied by aircraft such as the Hawk & M346, training to fly fighters.

I agree with EXSSBN2005 on the second question.

Isn't that the function that PAF has not intended for S-211 ? I believe the function (COIN) already being carried out rather well in PAF by OV-10.

Besides, with continue military cooperation with ROK under Aquino III Presidency (http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/i...11/november/22), PAF could end up with ROK surpluses F-5E or Bae Hawk. After all ROK seems willing to give those surplus F-5 or Bae Hawk to sweeten further Defense deal.

Except for India, after Kiran and now Sitara, India seems continue the trend to used Jets for intermediate trainers where every one else going the trend with Turboprops.
