I would like to know what you guys think of it. Personally i say behind [Mod edit: Text deleted. I strongly recommend quoting and citing sources, if you are to proceed in future posts. Let me give an example of a citation for reference purposes: "Rethinking the Basis of Infantry Close Combat" by David Kilcullen (pages 29-40, Vol. 1 No. I, June 2003 of the Australian Army Journal).

However, this topic closed as it is going no where, with no data or reports on the Egyptian military presented for analysis. Further, this thread did not start on a good footing, as it was started as a 'this vs that' manner, which is discouraged.]

The Egyptian military is overall the 2nd best due to the aid it receives from the US. But the Saudi are up there with Egyptians and Israelis due to the hi tech equipment it has. The main reason Egyptian military look good because of the M-1's and F-16's. The training of the Egyptian Military is where it needs improvement also its NCO's and Officers. The Egyptian has identified the problem and are working on them.

The main agenda of the Egyptian military is to ensure that Egypt remains the 2nd largest recipient of U.S. aid [after Israel], to continue occupying an important position in the overall scheme of things and to keep the Muslim Brotherhood [which Mubarak with Uncle Sam's approval proytayed as a bunch of cut throat Muslim fundamentalists] from coming to power - not preparing for any clash with Israel.

One of the best books with a detailed account of Egyptian military performance is '' Arabs At War'' by Kenneth Pollack. In the book, the author mentions an incident in the 1st Gulf War where an artillery unit, despite being informed by the Americans that the Iraqis has retreated, continued firing on a pre-registered target because approval to do otherwise had to come from Cairo! Like other Arab armies, the main problem the Egyptian army faces is political interference and the fact that internal security is one of their main concerns.

Only on paper. The Saudis still rely on thousands of Westerners and Pakistanis to keep their gear running. Despite the billions spent on defence, the Saudis, like the Gulf states, are still petrified of the Iranians and depend on the Americans for their external security.

If you want to compare some middle east countries, You can't seperate Turkey. Did u understand what I mean?
And do you understand what I meant????? In response to what you said about Turkey being a part of the Middle East, I simply said that a lot of Turks might not agree with what you said. I offered no opinions about whether Turkey is part of Asia or the Middle East..............

ok then,
[Mod edit: Discussions on the Egyptian military are on topic but your attempt at contining the discussion in the manner you have done is off-topic and lacking in sources four your opinions. Please try to stay on-topic and to provide sources.

Kindly note that posting inflammatory comments is also frowned upon. Do not personalize countries as if they were individuals. When one takes that approach, the level of discussion can easily take a turn to the more emotional rather than rational. With that said, guys, have fun taking part in discussions and many thanks for taking note of the Forum Rules.]

what about Egypt?
Egypt is a part of Africa and also middle east.
which one is ok?
Some of Egyptians can think they are africans some of... middle east.
How can we solve this problem? ignoring the others?
according to me (as a Turk) this is Egypt's richness like Turkey's richness

so this is not a violation
if u still think the same, go on.

regards
