The Pakistani army today is an Infantry force backed up by a Tank force.

However as Pakistan absorbs more m-113/telha/saad apcs Pakistan will be able to become an Armored force backed up by infantry.

as it stands now the (m-113 series and look alikes will be refered to as m-113's) Afv fleet is based completely around the M-113 carrier. The btr-70 is used only during peacekeeping missions far from its borders.

Pakistan should seriously consider a rearmament scheme on the m-113 to replace the 12.7mm and 14.5mm heavy machine guns with a turreted 23mm twin or perhaps even some sort of medium cannon.

but this is not the only measure Pakistan should do , obsolete tanks such as the m47/48 and m60 , and tanks which are not to be converted to the al zarrar (type 69/59) cofiguration should be turned into heavy Ifvs

these allow infantry the same levels of protection as the tanks in its arsenal.

Pakistan should also consider a simpler version of the badar shakran atgw such a weapon would be a single shot anti tank weapon with little or no tracking ability,

Since pakistan has decided to adopt the steyr aug (or is this just a rumor)
Pakistan should look into keeping the g3 rifle within the rifle squad immagine when fitted with a bipod and scope it could serve as a designated marksmans rifle as well as allowing the Pakistanis to use the type to fire rifle grenades.

let us consider for a momment that due to the geographic borders of pakistan most of the heavily populated areas are within range of the Indian artillery , (pakistan lacks strategic depth) because of this pakistan really must adopt a heavily armed and hard hitting force.

pakistan should furthermore throw its orginizational tables out the window and adopt the old German Kampfgruppen (battle groups) these are as needed groupings of units larger than batallion strength .

pakistan should work on making a professional force of troops of the rear (mechanics, cooks, clerks etc)

Pakistan has so far failed in operations in kargil and in somalia due to the total dependance of its fighting men upon the officer corps, indeed there exists a class distinctions bordering upon servitude.

While the individual Pakistani soldier is hardy and brave, he is led by an officer corps something out of the victorian era.

Pakistani officers have enlisted servants, who fan them and serve them tea.

the Pakistani officer corps generaly have better clothes, better equipment and access to better training.

Indeed infact the Pakistani Officer corps views those who they are charged over with contempt.
(some of this contempt is based upon the fears of fundamentalist islam, the western/anglo educations of the elite, and the poverty of those who are enlisted)
