Ah ok, I missunderstood that.
That may be the case (I have no idea if one AC or some cooling vests need more power) but as I said that doesn't help you when your electronics are getting fried.

Do any M1A1/2 drivers have some more info on this picture? I was wondering what caused this damage and if any of the crew were killed. I presume this is a photo is of an Abrams that hit a VBIED.

This is not a M1 series, you are looking at a IDF modified(upgraded) M-60 series.

In the M1A2 control bar the driver need of both "grip" to accelerate? Or only a grip?

They are linked - you can accelereate with one hand.

We lost an Abrams in the Euphrates in OIF. No way the driver was getting out and all 4 were actually KIA. The escape hatch on the bottom of the M60 is sometimes mentioned as desirable, though not when you here stories of them being lost along the way (especially during amphibious ops).

Depending on the fuel discipline needed, NBC can be used as AC on the M1A1. It's mostly not needed, though. You're sweating like crazy anyway, what's a few degrees. I know in Iraq, highest I recall my ammo temp was 127 and that's 10 degrees cooler than ambient...
