Hi All!

I tried searching for a thread like this but came out empty, so please direct me to a thread if this already exists.

On an air-to-air battle, who is likely to make the first shot and first kill?

Assumptions would be:
1. All systems/technology currently on all three planes work as advertised.
2. The AIM-120D already is operational and works as advertised.
3. The F-15SE has the same AESA radar as the F-15SG or Super Hornet.

Given these assumptions, I'm inclined to think that the F-15SE will get to fire his AIM-120D first, and given the number of -120D's it can carry, I don't think a EF or Rafale will even get close enough to force the F-15SE to a dogfight, which of course, it will almost certainly lose (even with the high off-boresight AIM-9X). Plus, the F-15SE supposedly had a frontal signature close to that of the F-35, which will make it hard for the EF or Rafale to detect, track and lock-on, since they don't have AESA.

We can also put an additional assumption, that...
1. Both parties have AWACS.
2. The battle will be at most a 2 against 2.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Mods: It's my 1st ever post here, so please bear with me.

hi welcome to the forums!

this sort of thread is kind of frowned upon on here and are normally closed fiarly quickly as they just tend to encourage endless arguements from fan boys of the various aircraft.
more specific queries are more welcome and more informative for all the forum users.....

good luck!

We don't do VS threads here, they are pointless and against the rules.

Thread closed.

Thanks AegisFC.

fretburner,

Welcome to Defencetalk! As Jaffo mentioned, we've had issues with this vs that kind of threads in the past so we, long time ago, decided that we are not going to put up with such BS. Not all A vs. B threads are bad if you can detail the thread with questions like:

--Why one weapon is better than the other?
--How capability of one weapon make it a better choice in combat zone than the other one?
--If you throw in a scenario or two, that also helps other users understand and answers above questions. You have more than what most users would post and we appreciate that but comparative threads/articles are good when they are detailed and cover both sides and all aspects of weapons and their capabilities.

Thanks and enjoy!
