Australian Army Reserve Maximum Hours

Hi,

I want to join the army reserve however I was wondering how much I can potentially earn in a year? I want to work the maximum hours allowable per year. I would go full time army but I am young and pursuing other careers that I can only do at this stage of my life and they are careers where it is very difficult to make it.

I know a lot factors influence pay but roughly how much can i earn up to doing the maximum days per year?

I want join as Operator Meterology and Survey (TUAVS!) or an MP - I am also confused about becoming an MP as one soldier told me that you need to be employed in a different position for a year before you can apply to become an MP and another soldier told me you can apply directly and it is an urgent job. I am female so im not sure what role I could do for a year before requesting a transfer to MPi.e i cannot join infantry then transfer i could only apply for a specialised job which would prob be reluctant to let me transfer.

I would like it if the army reserve pays enough to cover basic living/rent costs. If it is only like a couple of grand I may just wait till im ready for reg army.

Depends on your unit's funding and training schedule.

I think the bare minimum is somewhere around 40 days per year, with 70 being the "norm" and 100 days being the maximum (at least in my unit, way back when).

As to how much you earn? No idea overall, depends on how many days, bush allowances etc.

I would suggest it would most likely be thousands per year, rather than tens of thousands.

There are more productive ways of making money, then joining with the reserves. If you want to do so, great, but don't be fooled into thinking your finances will be provided for, entirely by Ares training...

As to the number of days, get in touch with the unit you would be employed by and ask them.

still 100 days. Any longer, and you are considered full time duty, which has a different pay system.

Thats fine i just needed some kind of amount so i know how many hours I need to do at my day job, when i get one. Its hard in my industry to take any days off because the office wouldnt be able to function without me so im goin to choose a different day job where someone else can replace me when im away...

It is possible to extend to 150 days with your CO's approval. But the government is cracking down on full time service for reservists to save money, so it's difficult to get any more than that.

Note the emboldened word above. Many years ago when I was involved with ARES units they were allocated a certain number of man days per year - if your unit is a little short on man days and you are not considered indispensible, you may end up well short of that.

Talk to the unit you intend joining before you make your plans.
