Just a FYI item:

There are various usergroups that control what you can and cannot do on DT. Some of the Public (Joinable) groups are:

Registered Users
Users in this group are those who have just registered on the forums but have not posted yet. These users can post, view threads, browse the forums just as anybody would but they may not be able to get to some parts of DefenceTalk.com forums (other user profiles, etc) as well as:

only 50 Private Messages inbox limit

no custom title
no custom avatar
Long list of other restrictions.

Some other restrictions are also lifted

Don't forget to read the reply above this one.

In addition to that, new template has been added for the users with dial up connections. The page loads maybe a little faster on that as it doesn't have any images, etc. To select, just scroll down at the end of the page and look to your left and select whichever template you prefer.

Enjoy. :)

Maybe its just me but I like this new layout that is appearing when I read posts!! The username and information shows above the persons's post rather than to the left side of it. Looks cool and gives a new feel to the whole forum I'd say! Sweet!!

Just testing something. Probably, we would end up with user option so user can select which display option to have. Either on left (old way) or on top ( the new way).

Hi Webmaster,
I am sick of pakistan-India comparision. Can you please put hold on such meaningless discussions !! Weapons platforms can be discussed in a little more moderate environment under weapons database and not under which country has what and how it is superior. I think many people will agree with me(including you :coffee )
cheers,
blackhawk

WebMaster

ashblackhawk,

I don't think anyone is more sick of India-pakistan threads than my self but the problem is you can't really stop people from discussing certain stuff related to their countries. However, members from india and pakistan are seriously obsessed with their own respective countries while they totally ignore what is happening in other countries as far as defence is concerned. Even if they look at military developments in Europe or USA, they will still link it to their own countries by any means possible. Frankly, I am sick of this type of blind patriotism and request those members to "open-up" and think out side the border lines for once. As it is, DT is not here to discuss issues related to a particular country or particular region but as an international platform for all types of defence discussions (technical/non-technical).

In Past, we have had this to stop the influx of posts but it hasn't been used for past few months:

Cool new feature has been added to save some time if you want to insert pictures from the gallery.

You must have pictures already uploaded in DT's gallery for this to work, see image below...

Also, file attachment size has been increased from 100 kb to 150 kb for JPG, JPEG formats. You can also attach WORD documents and PDF with size of 195 KB.

Any issues? Send email to admin@defencetalk.com

Enjoy!!!

Dear webmaster what is the Rep power does it depend on the no. of posts and the joined date but i dont think it depends on that and when i move the cursor to this green dot then i see (nick) is on distuingshed road ????what is all this and what does all this mean

WebMaster

What is rep (reputation) power feature?

The User Reputation system allows your board members to leave comments about one anothers' posts, and thereby contribute to their overall 'reputation'.

User Reputation in its simplest form is a ranking of your user's benefit to your forum. Its basis comes from the opinions of all of your forum users that choose take part in it.

Users gain and lose reputation based on how their posts are scored by other forum participants. Users with the ability to affect reputation, will either give or take aways points by approving or disapproving with a post's content.

I will post the various reputation levels soon.

WebMaster
July 22nd, 2005, 09:55 PM
Okay, here are details about the rep power feature:

Register Date Factor
For every 120 number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

Post Count Factor
For every 100 number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
Reputation Point Factor
For every 100 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power
Minimum Post Count
How many posts must a user have before his reputation hits count on others? 100.
Minimum Reputation Count
How much reputation must a user have before his reputation hits count on others? 6.
Daily Reputation Clicks Limit
How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period? 10.

See two pictures for more details.

Any questions? Comments? Please let me know.

Enjoy!

What do RSS feed do?

mysterious

Brief explanation - put related news at your fingertips or in this case, within clicks of your mouse.

RSS=Real Simple Syndication

Easy way to deliver content to website users / visitors without them having to come online. For example: If you were to have news RSS, gallery rss and forum rss in a RSS reader like PLUCK or search on google for many more... you would be shown latest posts, news and gallery updates (with thumbnails) at your desktop without you even have to logon to DT or visit DT. You can then click on the picture or post or news link to read the full item. ;)

Around 100 nice avatars added... how to get those? Click on the USERCP link on the top navigation, then on left side click on the AVATAR link and then choose "whatever" category.

The forum software has been upgraded with some great features. You will notice as you browse along... :)

Also some enhancements have been made to the threads where users are given options to post the thread to their favorite link sharing portal. (see screenshot in attached image)

The news articles pages and tools, info related to the article have been reorganized into one place, at the bottoms and rightsides of the article. (see attached image for a screenshot)

Find out more...
Links and info related content links such as pictures, videos, PDF file reports, discussions that have something to do with the article.
Do more...
Links that allow you to print, email and get further updates through RSS feeds are in the "do more..." area.
Spread the word...
If you participate on link sharing websites that are listed in this section, then please take some time to share the link on those websites and get the word out!

The country flags are gone and will be restored soon with more "modern" looking flags. :D

Another thing for everybody, if you LOGIN to the forums, you will have a chance to browse with LESS ads. :)

Questions, comments and suggestions? Feel free to post here!

In order to fight the spam terrorists that come on with their nokias and sony crap. You would think these people would go to NOKIA and SONY (cellphone, game) websites to sell their stuff and not military/defence...

Anyway, any new members wanting to insert URLs/LINKS in their posts would need at least 15 posts or more before they are able to do so.

In addition to that, the users with less than 10 posts will be scanned for special keywords, etc. and if matched their posts will be sent to moderation queue thus not letting the general users and visitors see what type of spam was posted.

That is all for now.

Thanks and enjoy!
