Do they operate under land or do they only operate by sea? I saw a video on youtube where they where in Afghanistan but they did nothing from the sea, all there operations where from land.

Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navy_SEALS#Area_of_Operations)

Yes, it's only Wikipedia, but it should be enough to satisfy you.

Just because they are affiliated with the Navy does not mean they cannot operate on land and as well by Air (Parachuting, etc.) The Marines operate on all terrains and have a small Navy, Air Force and Land Force.

Training military personnel is not about limiting them to a special task, but to teach them as much as possible without reducing their expertise in another field. Obviously training the Marines (or SEALs) in land/desert operations does not reduce their abilities in amphibious and littoral operations, so why should they not do it?
