The Indian Army will get its first woman lieutenant general when Punita Arora is promoted to the rank on Wednesday and assumes command of Pune's Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC).

A graduate of the college, Arora joined the Army Medical Corps in 1968.

She did her post-graduation in gynaecology and obstetrics from the college and was awarded a gold medal for topping the examination conducted by Pune University.

She was awarded the Sena Medal by the president for establishing gynaecology, endoscopy and oncology facilities in armed forces hospitals

Ah I not a fan of the feminism ideology. Don't promote her just because she's a woman. Promotions only on the basis of merit, indifferent to the sex of the person. I am sure the army follows this too.

extremism of any kind is not good for any country(both feminism and male chauvnism included).thats what i feel.by the way i dont think this particular promotion has anything to do with feminism.she is a decorated soldier.she didnt win sena medal for nothing.she was in charge of treating the kaluchak victims.it is said she did a commendable job.

Yes, I don't contest her promotion. My reply was to sikder who was claiming about the righteousness of feminism.
