Hi! I`m from Serbia and I love aviation...
In my country, there are two air bases, Ladjevci and Batajnica...
At Ladjevci airport, there are squadron of J-22 Eagles and 2-3 G-4 Super Seagulls.
At Batajnica airport, there are planes like MiG-29, MiG-21, J-22, G-4, Utva-75 and Lasta-95 and choppers Gazela, Mi-8 and Mi-17.
Our MiG-29s don`t fly because they haven`t got erasers.
We have five operational MiG-21s, six J-22s, 7-8 G-4s and four Mi-8s.
Also, our Mi-17s don`t fly because they`re waiting for an overhaul.

What do you also know about SAF?

The MiG-29 are being brought back to operational status. At least a couple of them are flyable right now. There's supposed to be a tender for replacement for the MiG-21, with the MiG-29 being the current favorite.

There is an article on politika.rs site (Serbian newspaper, sorry I still can't post URLs). The other part of URL is "rubrike/Drustvo/Novi-borbeni-avioni-Srbije-na-lizing.lt.html".

The article doesn't state which models will compete. Mostly it describes possible financing models, where leasing like the one used by Hungarians and Czechs for Grippen seems as preferred model at least for the military analysts and journalists cited by the author of the article.

It also discusses that buying Russian aircrafts are viable option even for NATO members, although not a single NATO member country from eastern europe purchased such model after joining the NATO.

In the very end, based on the opinion of military analyst Aleksandar Radic, it states that some technical personnel from military would like to see Russian aircrafts, while pilots would be satisfied with just about anything that is new.

@fromzg I agree with you in this last! We need the plane which will have good rockets, radar and good all offset.

I'm not an expert on your policy but I have heard that you do not need new fighters to defend that your territory-kosovo?
It seems to me that you do not know from whom to defend yourself, like many other small countries. What is the purpose of your Air Force, probaby nobody knows ?

The purpose of the current Serbian airforce is maintaining capability. It may have little immediate use, however in the long run it will be needed.

Yeah... there are rumours that they abandoned to "maintain industrial and agricultural capability" - economic figures tells so, why should they maintain airforce capability if they gave up production which feeds them?

No. I suggest doing a little research of your own before asking such questions. Again, Google will help you. Scramble on the Web, or Wikipedia, will give answers to such questions in almost all cases.

I was wondering if the Serbian Forces are considering or considered buying advanced air-defence like S-300PMU, TOR-M1 and S-300V in view of their experience in the Balkan Conflict? The shooting down of a F-117 by AD officer [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zolt%C3%A1n_Dani"]Zoltán Dani - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Zoltan_Dani.jpg" class="image"><img alt="Zoltan Dani.jpg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/87/Zoltan_Dani.jpg/150px-Zoltan_Dani.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/8/87/Zoltan_Dani.jpg/150px-Zoltan_Dani.jpg[/ame] was a milestone, and even with the obsolescent system he used the tactics he laid down could be effective enough in the future to be adopted by whole countries in heavy SEAD environment.

They don't have the budget to operate such systems proficiently. They will probably continue to operate older S-125/200 systems.

You are right. If someone cleverly use older equipment that may be sufficient.
I have heard that officers that downed 117 are expelled from army, is that right ?

Hi Adriann! You asked a sad question! What I can say is that I visited Aviation Museum in the outskirts of Belgrade some 7 years ago. They have displayed there the debris of the F117 and F16 downed in 1999 (wing, fins, canopy, pilot helmet, etc.).

It is noted that the information is low about the Serbian air forces. Please if we give details information. For example, the last moderns are in the air forces.
