Jordanian private firm to build light aircraft - a first in Arab world

Nice thinking by the Arabs... a first ever also. I would like to see this one succeed, for the better.

Jordan Aerospace Industries (JAI) has become the first private company in the Arab world to manufacture light aircraft and is expected to complete its first model before the end of the year, the firm said Thursday.

"Jordan Aerospace Industries is the first and only private enterprise in the Middle East to manufacture, assemble and service light general aviation certified aircraft," JAI president and CEO Muayad al-Samaraee told a news conference at the Dubai air show.

JAI secured approval from the Jordan Civil Aviation Authority.

Production of the first aircraft, the SAMA CH 2000 trainer, began several months ago and would be completed shortly, Samaraee said.

"The first aircraft will be delivered to a Jordanian flying school before the end of this year."

The company had secured export orders for at least 25 aircraft from buyers across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, he added.

JAI has also secured an agreement with the Canadian firm Zenair to manufacture and certify the Hawk-1 CH801, a four-seat STOL utility aircraft used for surveillance, crop spraying and other functions.

The company will likewise manufacture and assemble the REMOS G3-Rali aircraft, a lightweight craft manufactured by the German firm Remos Aircraft which won several awards at the AERO 2001 show in Germany.

Located at Amman International airport, JAI has a paid-up capital of 30 million dollars and is planning to plough some 50 million dollars into upgrading its facilities, and into research and development, Samaraee said.

Around 550 exhibitors from 36 countries took part in the Dubai air show.

I am very aware of Arab capability, especially Egypt, Jordania, Lebanon, Syria. They are hard-working people (not like us... ). However it's all coming back to political will.

i think ever since 9/11 and recently because of iraq the arabs are seeing the importance of self reliance and these are the tentative fists steps in this regard. you have to start with the basics and they are taking a leaf out of pakistans book by the look of things!!!...

The heavy military-industrial complex coupled with associated advanced R & D required just isn't present in the Arab countries on a large enough scale...Furthermore, this often expensive, time and resource-consuming option perhaps proves unattractive in the face of cheap and competent of-the-shelf procurement options from other countries with established manufacturing bases and technical knowledge of this line of work.

DarthChorley, I was not aware light aviation prodution in Jordan was directly related to a world-wide Pakistani-influenced Arab step towards self-proficiency in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and the US invasion of another country...

Re: Jordanian private firm to build light aircraft - a first in Arab world

the first private company in the Arab world to manufacture light aircraft .

THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS SAYING FIRST ARAB NATION TO BUILD AIRCRAFT!

iTS THE FIRST Privately owned (by arabs) company to build a/c.

Egypt has been either building or assembling aircraft off and on since 1940.

Egyptian company is nationaly owned. (nationalized)

The First Aircraft Built (I believe) by Egypt was an unliscenced copy of the German Luftwaffe trainer known as the

The second generation of Egyptian Built craft was after the revolution and nassers takeover Egypt Contacted the Govt of Spain and worked with their basic trainer and came up with an Upgrade of it.

ha-200 "al'khira" lit. "cairo"

lastly we have the first aircraft built by egypt in its entirety derived for the EAF (actualy the United arab republic airforce) the Ha-300 (ha 300 was also the last jet designed by willy messerschmidt)

the Ha-300 was to be used by egypt only, the Spanish and Indians withdrew the Indian derived jet engine was to later soldier on in their ajeet fighter bomber.

Sadly this jet did not fly other than in prototype form as the availibility of mig-21's and due to the cost of the war of attrition with the Zionist entity (1967-1973)

During the later stages of the 1970s , egypt would only built light trainers and signed a deal to build german light trainer aircraft, while the Industrial oranization known as the "arab organization for industrialization went thry egyptian misrule and in the late 1970s or early 1980s the Gulf states who were the primary owners had enough of the egyptian states interfearance and corruption and sold their stakes in it to the egyptian govt.

Now The Modern Era.

Deal with China 1984-87 assembly and building of F-7 fighter over (120)

Deal with France 1987 assembly of Alpha Jets and liscence building of the alphajet engine, mirage 2000 wings, and the inhouse upgrading of the mirage 5 with the avionics ground to ground of the alphajet

Deal with Brazil for the assembly of the Tucano Trainer 1989?

Domestic Upgrading of the F-7 and Mirage 5

Deal with China 1996 for the setting up of a k-8e assembly line in egypt

The K-8e will be fitted with the egyptian built french derived alphajet engine and a external 23mm gun pod.

With an eye to the Future Egyptian news media reports that Egypt is building the prototype of a new fighter.

according to these reports it is NOT a Light trainer/ground attack aircraft.

It will be used to phase out the mig-21/f7 mirage 3 and phantoms.
